  • So now you acknowledge what Shox fans have been saying for years

Shocker fans have taken a lot of grief for saying the obvious over the years. We are apparently arrogant and full of ourselves to think that we contribute more to the MVC than we take. Now that we are leaving however. . . .

Missouri State AD Dan Moats says: “[Wichita State is] everyone’s best draw,” Moats said. “It’s going to be a hit to our conference because of their success. It’s certainly going to be a hit during our conference tournament when they bring thousands of people there to help our conference tournament. It’ll be a financial hit for all of our schools.

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Missouri State Athletic Director Kyle Moats has heard all of the reports and rumblings that Wichita State is headed to the American Athletic Conference. “I certainly can’t confirm it,” he said.

Moats believes that the conference would act quickly to replace Wichita State if they left, but says that the longer the Shockers drag this out, the harder it will be to get a new team in the fold in time for next season.
Not sure what exactly he thinks the Shockers are doing to drag this out. Wichita State can't do anything until the AAC extends the official invitation. I think Wichita State has and is doing everything in its power to make this happen as quickly as possible.

No sympathy for this. They kept it in St. Louis when the tourney would have made much more if it had been in KC. Now they care about the revenue created by the conference tourney?

This is why I don't feel bad for leaving at all. The "too big for their britches" comment and Elgin saying we benefit more from the MVC than the MVC benefits from us were all such loser comments. Now that we're leaving, they actually realize it.

At least we knew what we were losing when Creighton left.

The "too big for their britches" comment was just one idiot saying something that at the time I was sure he would eventually regret. I bet in hindsight he wishes he never said it.

The MVC has been riding our coattails since the day after Creighton left. For that I don't feel bad for leaving. I do feel sad that what was once the best college basketball conference in all the land has fallen this far. Even over just the past 10 years it has slipped in stature considerably. I don't think the Valley will ever be a regular multibid league again. That's sad.

The SIU AD just publicly expressed what everyone already knew (and probably talked about in private). Yes, Wichita State had outgrown their britches (the MVC). Probably didn't mean it as a complement but the bottom line is it was an extremely accurate statement.

Eh, I wasn't too salty about the britches comment. It was actually really funny, given that it happened the same weekend we sent two people to NBA rosters - and one of them was from THEIR state.

The Elgin comment, on the other hand, peeved me off considerably. They bent over backward to appease Creighton (and I'm still not convinced 1.9 wasn't part of that) but they seemed content to abuse us however they saw fit to try and maximize the number of possible tournament teams. Especially after the seeding debacle, which was completely tied to league RPI which is Elgin's job to motivate the member institutions to improve. To say that we got more out of the MVC than they got out of having us ... well, the only thing he could have reasonably been talking about was raw number of trophies.

Agreed. The "Britches" comment was totally accurate. The Elgin comment was total BS and he knew it was total BS. The Valley seems to be singing a bit different tune now.

The britches comment was an AD trying to make a splash and drum up some press and some excitement for his team. Totally understandable.

May well have been but it was still an accurate statement. The Shocks had outgrown their britches (britches being the MVC).

And what are they going to do with all of their "not a state" t-shirts?

No doubt MSU will be pushing extremely hard for the Valley to go after Wright State to replace the Shocks.

Well wasn't it more of the tone of "They think they're getting too big for their britches" as if to downplay the fact that we were too big for the MVC? Because yeah, we clearly are too big for our britches. I just think he was trying to say we weren't and that we need to come back down to Earth because no other conference wants us.

Though not the MoVal per se, the commish for the MVFC completely pissed me off when she made the negative comment about WSU possibly wanting to join their football conference. The MoVal had a chance. They screwed the pooch with the SIUAD and MVFC comments. Continuining to play the tournament in STL rather than KC etc etc etc...
