My understanding over the last week was that UNO was becoming a front runner and entertaining MVC visits. That was from a personal source who knows someone in the athletic department. Guess you never know until it's done though. I'd still really like a 12 team format (which seems more realistic than 14 or 16) that includes UNO, Valpo and basically anyone else... UMKC would be good geographically for the west side but Belmont and Murray State are way better choices and have good geography on the east side.

Plus I keep trying to bring up that if you actually add schools that are in the geographical Missouri River Valley, that would be good. Right now there are basically zero schools in it anymore. All of the effort to go east and shrink the footprint ended up making it dumb. UNO and UMKC and the Dakota schools could fix that.

The only thing that may be considered 'good news' for the MVC is that the NCAA is still allowing them to stay at the Division 1 level after the Shockers departure.

Please tell me the arena's nickname is the glass cage of emotion.

Not sure. I don't think UNO has the creative energy to come up with a nickname. I'll pass it on, though.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Not sure about the name but both Obama and Bernie have given speeches in it. But that's probably a discussion for the politics forum.

Even with that going against it, it still is a nice venue, better than several other Valley arenas. Seats 8,000, nice video boards, ribbon boards, luxury boxes, great concessions, and an extra sheet of ice if you want to take the family skating after the game.

                  More speculation. Usual suspects.

                    Another one. Says Murray State.

CARBONDALE — Murray State University was one of the six founding members of the Ohio Valley Conference in 1948, but is officially exploring its options.

I agree with that. Went to Jake White senior game and from what I can tell it's a great arena. Not a bad seat in the house really.

I don't remember WSU EVER saying they were happy with the current MVC membership in the last year let alone month.

I saw something on twitter that MVC officials are visiting Murray State today, Valpo tomorrow, followed by UN-Omaha and UW-Milwaukee.

Please tell me they are going to do all four and that Belmont is already a done deal, going to 14. If they pull that off, there may be a real future. And it would be super annoying that it took WSU leaving to get them to think this way.

Further splitting the revenue from the Big Dance does not favor 12 vs 10.. Especially when only one piece of the pie is a certainty in any given year.
Hopefully the MVC schools aren't thinking like that. If they aren't willing to risk $50k-$100k in a given year in order to potentially put a 2nd team in the tournament and/or get better seeds, they should just quit trying.

Those soulless bastards quit trying many years ago
