11. Cincinnati Bearcats
Record: 24-3
Last week: 6
After playing maybe one NCAA tournament team in the past two-plus months, Cincinnati didn't step up to the challenge last week. The Bearcats lost at Houston, then came home and dropped one to Wichita State. At home vs. Houston is still their best win. They'll have Round 2 against the Shockers in less than two weeks.
15. Wichita State Shockers
Record: 20-6
Last week: 21
The Shockers take a significant jump after winning at home over Temple and then beating Cincinnati on the road. They're now just one game out of the first place in the AAC and get to host Round 2 against the Bearcats. They have 12 Quadrant 1 and 2 wins now, too.
25. Houston Cougars
Record: 21-5
Last week: NR
Houston edges out Missouri and Arizona State for the final spot in the rankings after a huge week that included a win over Cincinnati and a road victory over Temple. The Cougars are ranked in the top 20 in the RPI and KenPom, as well as in ESPN's Strength of Record metric.

"Andy Katz’s Power 36: Predicting who’s in and out of the NCAA tournament (Feb. 19)" - NCAA
Andy Katz, Correspondent
Last Updated - Feb 19, 2018 08:41 EST
"For this week’s Power 36 let’s go ahead and lock in with the teams that were playing the best basketball this past week. Some of these teams did lose, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be ranked high. There are a lot of new teams in the bottom part of the poll. Let's dive in.
1. Villanova (Last week: 9)
2. Virginia (4)
3. Michigan State (5)
4. Arizona (14)
5. Duke (13)
6. Xavier (1)
7. Wichita State (Not Rated :banghead:)
The Shockers played a high level game Sunday in a road win at Cincinnati after dispatching Temple at home. The Shockers are proving to be more than capable to play up during the regular season, just like they have in the postseason under Gregg Marshall. That road win Sunday will go down as one of the best under Marshall prior to March.
8. Gonzaga (11)
9. North Carolina (10)
10. Kansas (19)
Others:
15. Cincinnati (2): The Bearcats lost two games last week, at Houston and at home to Wichita State. Cincinnati still has the chops to be a Final Four contender. But the Bearcats didn’t handle the expectation of being the favorite against teams that needed to make their mark. This past week may have damaged the seeding, but could be what the Bearcats needed to get a reset on the final few weeks.
18. Houston (18): The Cougars won both games this past week to likely lock in a possible berth. Beating Cincinnati for the season split and then winning at Temple was the most significant week for the Cougars since Kelvin Sampson was hired. I fell for this group in November. Nothing has changed
27. Baylor (NR):..."

"College Basketball Power Rankings 2018: Week 16 Rankings" - COED Sports
BY TYLER GAMBILL
Posted: 02/19/18, 9:45am cst
Here are COED's college basketball power rankings for week 16. See how we rank college basketballs best teams for this week.
10. Cincinnati Bearcats
Losing to both Houston and Wichita State this past week, the Bearcats have almost completely relinquished their hold on the top spot in the American Conference. Considering their offense is one-dimensional and unreliable, the Bearcats need their defense to be nothing less than great if they hope to win consistently.
15. Wichita State Shockers
Although the Shockers have been victims of a porous defense from time to time this season, their offense has stepped up mightily in their last four games (have scored 85 points or more in three of their last four games). With a win over a defensively stout Bearcats program, the Shockers have to be feeling great about their chances of going far in the NCAA Tournament.
22. Houston Cougars
I have been advocating for the Cougars for the past couple of weeks as being a stout defensive program that is completely deserving of a spot in the rankings. Winning their last five games while holding their opponents to 65 points or less during their win streak, the Cougars are hitting their stride at the best possible time and have a strong chance of snatching the American Conference title away from Cincinnati by the end of the season.

"College basketball week 16: 5 important things to know" - FanSided Sports

Wichita State kicks off its budding rivalry against Cincinnati with a win
When the Shockers announced they were joining the American Athletic Conference, college basketball hoop heads immediately turned their attention to the two regular season meetings with the Bearcats.
The first one didn’t disappoint.
Sunday evening’s contest — a 76-72 win for Wichita State on the road — felt like the latest in a long line of rivalry games, except it was the first meeting between the two schools since 1981. Players from both teams were chasing loose balls, a Cincinnati fan chucked a glow stick on the floor when an early call didn’t go the Bearcats’ way and later, the entire arena booed loudly after Shaquille Morris stayed down following an elbow from his teammate. The crowd didn’t seem to think he was hurt enough.
Wichita State’s win was the team’s first on the road against a top five opponent since 1964 and snapped the nation’s longest home winning streak at 39 games, but more importantly it thrust the Shockers back into the national conversation after a disappointing run so far.
Perhaps, then, it’s time to change the tone of conversation surrounding Gregg Marshall’s squad. For much of the season, the media and college basketball fans have focused on Wichita State’s lagging defense, a product of expectations established by Marshall’s prior rosters. But the 2017-18 Shockers aren’t the Shockers of old.
Instead, this team dominates games offensively with a free-flowing scheme and big men who can space the floor. Wichita State ranks in the top 10 nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency, per KenPom, and on Sunday, they hung 1.15 points per possession on the nation’s second best defense in a road game.
Now, the Shockers control their own destiny in the American. If they win out, they’ll clinch a share of the regular season conference title. Another date with the Bearcats, though, still stands in the way.
