Best argument I've heard yet for ASU not being #1.

      • "College Basketball Rankings 2017-18: The Top 25 Teams After 1 Month" - Bleacher Report

        BY KERRY MILLER
        DECEMBER 11, 2017

        http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...-after-1-month

"The first month of the 2017-18 men's college basketball season was chock full of colossal upsets, but the Villanova Wildcats will enter the second month as our No. 1 team with a 10-0 record....

        1. Villanova Wildcats
        2. Michigan State Spartans
        3. Arizona State Sun Devils
        4. Duke Blue Devils
        5. Miami Hurricanes
        6. Wichita State Shockers

        Record: 8-1

Best Wins: at Baylor, at Oklahoma State, vs. Marquette, Noteworthy Games in December: vs. Oklahoma (Dec. 16)

        What We Like

Last year's leading scorer, Markis McDuffie, hasn't even played in a game yet this season, and Wichita State still has too many weapons for opposing teams to deal with.

Landry Shamet is unstoppable—as evidenced by his 30 points in Saturday's win over Oklahoma State. Conner Frankamp is a darn fine shooter, as well. Between Darral Willis, Rashard Kelly and Shaquille Morris, it seems like the Shockers pull down three out of every four possible rebounds on a nightly basis. And there are still four other players on this team averaging better than five points per game.

Whether you want to believe that the American Athletic is a major conference or not, Wichita State has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a major-conference team. The Shockers have two road wins over good Big 12 teams, neutral-court wins over Marquette and California and a last-second, neutral-court loss to Notre Dame.

        What We Don't Like

The Shockers have gotten into a nasty habit of starting slow. They trailed California by 18 points early in the second half, and they were down by 13 at the same point in a home game against South Dakota State. They scored just nine points in the first eight minutes against Baylor and were held to nine points for the first 14 minutes against Oklahoma State.

Eventually, they snap out of it and manage to just wear down the opposing team with their intensity and deep rotation, but you can't always count on a second-half comeback—particularly with a defense that doesn't force many turnovers.

        7. North Carolina Tar Heels
        8. Virginia Cavaliers
        9. Texas A&M Aggies
        10. TCU Horned Frogs

        Others
        18. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-2)
        20. Oklahoma Sooners (7-1)
        23. Baylor Bears (7-2)..."

He had us 10 last week, that's a pretty big jump. Though I don't like the Duke at 3 ranking.

That's profiling, and it's just wrong.

          • Timely update, we are #5 on Luke DeCock's ballot (up from 10).

Duke is 3rd, ASU is 6th. We are going to be comfortably ahead of ASU based on early returns; going to be close w/Duke.

            • "College hoops Power Rankings: Arizona State's unlikely rise to No. 1" - ESPN

              Jeff Borzello, ESPN Staff Writer
              Posted: 7:21 AM CT

Wait, hear us out. The easy move, after Duke's loss, was to jump Villanova or Michigan State to the top spot. But if you look at the entire body of work, raising Arizona State all the way to No. 1 isn't so crazy.

"...The crux of these power rankings is a season-long look. Teams don't automatically move up after a win or down after a loss. It's not purely an eye-test ranking, either, or else we could have Duke at No. 1 all season and that would be boring.

Arizona State put up 102 points on Xavier, 95 points at Kansas -- and has not lost a game yet. Will the Sun Devils be No. 1 on Selection Sunday? Will they be No. 1 when 2018 begins? We have no idea.

But right now, Arizona State has the best résumé in the country -- and that's good enough for No. 1.

              1. Arizona State Sun Devils
              2. Villanova Wildcats
              3. Michigan State Spartans
              4. Duke Blue Devils
              5. Wichita State Shockers: Record: 8-1, Last week: 9
The Shockers still don't have Markis McDuffie back from injury, but they've held serve -- aside from a one-point loss to Notre Dame in Maui. A win at Oklahoma State is better than it looks on paper, and they also won at Baylor.
              6. North Carolina Tar Heels
              7. Miami Hurricanes
              8. Texas A&M Aggies
              9. Kentucky Wildcats
              10. Xavier Musketeers

              Others:
              18. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
              22. Baylor Bears..."

UK should be comfortably behind us ... so I'm more concerned with the rankings vs Duke and ASU.

I'm concerned about anyone that has an AP vote putting UK 3rd.

It's really, really hard to overcome this kind of crap.

              • The college basketball subreddit's user poll.

Wichita State at 4 behind Duke, Michigan State and Villanova.

The 2nd best team in Kansas goes from 5 1st place votes (out of 83) to 12th.

                  • Rick Bozich - WSU 3, ASU 6, Duke 9
                    Jerry Carino - WSU 3, Duke 4, ASU 8
                    Brant Wilkerson - WSU 4, Duke 5, ASU 8
                    Mark Berman - ASU 2, WSU 4, Duke 6
Jon Rothstein (assuming his is the same he posted on FanRag) - ASU 1, WSU 4, Duke 9
                    Chris Dachille - Duke 2, WSU 4, ASU 8

That's all i could find on the twitter accounts of the voters. So far looks good for a #3 for WSU. Though lots of voters that don't publicly display their ballots until later.

                    • Xavier has 1 loss, which is to AZ State, who is undefeated with an impressive resume. ASU and Xavier could both argue to be in the Top 5.

Doug Haller has us at 6th (ASU 3, Duke 4) and Craig Meyer has us at 7th (Duke 4, ASU 5).

                        Ron Morris would be proud.
