  • Congrats on the Valley Championship

    Hello

I know how much you guys hate Illinois State. I know that in your eyes we are the anti-Christ. Lol. So I will be brief before returning to the prairie state.

Congrats on a great regular season. You guys have a tremendous program. I feel honored and very lucky that our Birds were able to match your 17 league wins. Although you have no respect for us and you hate us like the Chicago Outfit hated Castro, I still try to remain objective and respectful.

I wish you guys the best of luck next weekend. I would love to see a rubber match on Sunday and see the defeated team get a bid though I'm certain if we lose you will all be rooting hard for us to not get in. As they say, it is what it is.

Congrats to the Shox coaches and players on a great season to date. This might be old hat to you guys but for this old Bird fan I might not see another season like this. So despite the hatred, I'm proud of my team for at least making you earn it.

    Be well

GORL...I want us both to get in. Both could do some damage in the Tournament. Thanks for stopping by and congratulations on your amazing season and co-championship as well.

Teams that win 17 games in conference deserve to be in the tournament. Even in weak leagues, that requires a level of consistency and performance that should be rewarded.

And that's why @Ghost of Rick Lamb: is one of the great fans in the Valley, or anywhere else for that matter.

Not everyone, or dare I say, even most @Ghost of Rick Lamb:.

Your guys fought through adversity and injury and did something that doesn't happen often in this conference, save for the last few seasons here in Wichita. 17-1 is something to be savored and remembered. It's special, and so are MVC Championships.

I was visiting with a friend earlier today.....only 10 days in the history of WSU basketball have they celebrated winning a conference championship. 100 years and 10 days. Today was 11. If that's not to be celebrated, by both schools, then I don't know what should be.

Like every fan, we all want to win next Sunday. I believe it will be disgraceful if it's not a 3rd game between our 2 teams. And if we're fortunate enough to win 3 more in St Louis, this fan, among many others, will be hoping you get into the dance and do a lot of damage.

Moments like this are meant to be savored. Enjoy the ride. And Congratulations!

While some posters might express their wish for your team not to get in. Not me. The more teams in the Valley get bids, the more money WSU shares.

GORL I hope we the 41 point beat down in wichita will seem like we went easy on you on sunday. But then I still want you to get an at large and make the sweet 16. It only makes us look better and it makes us more money along with all the other teams. Once Sunday comes and goes I'm back to pulling for valley teams until the start of conference play in December.

Illinois State was taking on water a bit down the stretch, a good part probably attributable to the Mikyle McIntosh injury, but they kept baling water and made it to shore in fine fashion.

You can't take 17-1 away from them. Terrific year for both Illlinois State and Wichita State and it would be a shame if the two don't meet again in the Valley Tournament Championship game where they can sort out things on the court as it is meant to be.

I'll give the Redbirds credit where it's due. After we bludgeoned them three weeks ago, I figured they'd eff up somewhere along the line to give us the outright title. While there were a couple close calls, they pulled out the W's. If both teams make Sunday, then both will be dancing the next Sunday.

I'm as quick to make fun of the Jailbirds as anyone, and if I were one of their fans I'd be pretty nervous if they don't win St. Louis, especially if they happen to lose before Sunday -- today's results were the worst possible apparent combo for them, giving them a potential semifinal matchup against the winner of the SIU-Loyola rematch between two teams who know they have a genuine chance to take IllSt down. (MUCH more nervous, certainly, than I am as a WSU fan looking at a presumed Saturday game against the UNI-MoSt winner.)

I didn't think they'd make it here, as I've said many times. But they did, however unattractively at times; they just kept winning, and that counts for something (as does 17-1). And their defense is legit: they're ranked almost as high on AdjD in KenPom (10th at this writing) as WSU is in in AdjO (9th, a level that last year's Shockers could only dream of). So congratulations, Ghost. Your team earned their co-championship, and if they had as much class as you do, Shocker fans would be far less disparaging of them.

The one game CBS is hoping to be able to televise a week from Sunday is WSU and the Jailbirds, and it's probably the only game the Valley wants to see televised, too.
