          • I played in the Maui Jim Golf tournament today. Paired with a couple from Marquette and a ND fan. Great people, we shot a 65. Winning team shot a 58 and had two teenage players (14 & 16 maybe). I feel old.

                • Have had a wonderful time so far, been here since Weds. Would post photos if I could get them to attach. But, Not 10% smarter than the equipment so can't.
We are excited for the games to get started. Then after we celebrate a tourney win we will be here till the next Weds to relax and enjoy God's creation!!

                  • "No. 13 Notre Dame bids aloha to mainland (Nov 20, 2017)" - FOX Sports

                    Nov 20, 2017 at 4:55a ET

No. 13 Notre Dame will learn more about itself this week in Hawaii as part in the Maui Invitational, which includes No. 7 Wichita State and Michigan.

"No. 13 Notre Dame will learn more about itself this week in Hawaii as part in the Maui Invitational, which includes No. 7 Wichita State and Michigan.

Notre Dame opens tournament play against host Chaminade on Monday in Lahaina, Hawaii.

After posting convincing wins over DePaul and Mount St. Mary’s, Notre Dame rolled past Chicago State 105-66 on Thursday to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs and freshman guard D.J. Harvey each had career performances for Notre Dame, which shot 62.1 percent from the floor against the Cougars. Gibbs had 23 points, and Harvey came off the bench to score 15.

“This was a great focus win for us,” Gibbs said.

With the core of last year’s NCAA Tournament team back, Notre Dame has started strong but hasn’t faced near the level of completion that awaits on Maui.

Notre Dame beat its first three opponents by an average margin of 26.3 points, but it almost certainly will run into tougher competition in Hawaii. The season-opening road win at DePaul was the only one that was close, 72-58.

The winner of the Monday game between Notre Dame and Chaminade will face the winner of Michigan and LSU on Tuesday. Wichita State, California, Virginia Commonwealth and Marquette are in the opposite side of the bracket..."

                    • "Noie: Regardless of Maui basketball success, plenty of room to grow for No. 13 Notre Dame" - ND Insider

By Tom Noie, South Bend Tribune
                      Nov 19, 2017

"...Should Notre Dame handle Chaminade in the opener, and it should, Brey’s old Big East buddy, John Beilein, may await in the semifinals. Should Notre Dame beat Michigan for a second time in three years — the teams met in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament — and the rest of the bracket holds, No. 6 Wichita State would be next in Wednesday’s championship.

That’s when it gets interesting. Remember how much trouble Notre Dame had back in Buffalo with West Virginia in the second round of the 2017 NCAA tournament? The Irish couldn’t get into any semblance of an offensive rhythm, couldn’t get stops, couldn’t get out of its own confused way. Tossed into a 10-0 hole in the opening 3:07, the Irish were dismissed with an 83-71 loss.

                      It wasn’t really that close.

                      West Virginia was a headache.

                      Wichita State is a migraine.

The Shockers are talented and experienced. Focused. Driven. Good. The Irish also are talented and experienced. Focused. Driven. Good. But there’s also so much more room for this group to grow as Brey moves the pieces of his rotation puzzle around the basketball board over the next few weeks and months...."

"A whopping 118 schools representing 26 conferences and 80 percent of the United States have at one point in time laced ‘em up and competed in the Maui Invitational over the course of its 33-year history. Powerhouse teams from powerhouse conferences normally make the trip to the island, and that’s once again the case in 2017....

                          Player to Watch:
Keyshawn Evans – ...That’s exactly what sophomore guard Don Coleman has done through the team’s first three games in averaging over 25 points per game. The youngster dropped 31 and 30 points on UC Riverside and Cal Poly Slo’s heads in the team’s first two games, and he’ll no doubt be looked upon to make some noise on the island.

                          Team to Watch:
Wichita State Shockers – If there were any sort of odds released to win this tournament, the Shockers would no doubt be the odds on favorites to do so. Gregg Marshall’s kids got out to a slow start at the beginning of last season, and because of it, got tabbed a No. 10 seed by the selection committee in last year’s NCAA Tournament even though they entered it having not lost a game since the middle of January.

You can bet your bottom dollar the Shockers hit the hardwood looking to accrue some style points over the next three days. The absence of Markis McDuffie will make it tougher to dominate the glass, but Shaquille Morris and Darral Willis Jr. should still be able to handle their business. Look for Landry Shamet to take a liking to the Lahaina Civic Center’s notorious soft rims.

                          Coach to Watch
Mike Brey – The Fighting Irish have won a total of 50 games over the last two years, and it has everything to do with the job Brey does getting the best out of his players. Now in his 18th year at the helm of the program, he’s got a couple of PTP’ers in Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell that will no doubt have Notre Dame competing for league dominance as well as a trip back to the Big Dance for the eighth time in the last nine years.

No longer the underdog, the target is square on the Irish’s back after excelling for a number of years now. If there was any coach readily able to take on a challenge like that and live to tell about it, it would be Mike Brey who has routinely gotten more from unknown players in the past and turned them into collegiate studs.

                          Maui Invitational Prediction:
Wichita State cuts down the nets"

                            • Wichita State favored by 19.5 over California
Marquette favored by 4.0 over VCU
Michigan favored by 5.0 over LSU
Notre Dame favored (no line) over Chaminade

I say all four favorites will win today.

"What you need to know for Monday, Nov. 20:

                                1. There is no need to suggest the Maui Invitational is down because the potential exists for a championship game between two teams with Final Four aspirations. If Wichita State and Notre Dame play for the title on Wednesday it will deliver. The Shockers and Irish haven’t been tested in this young season.

                                But they will this week...."
