  • WSU VS. Drake Predictions and Pregame Discussions

Here's the deal. Our Shocks will be inexorable in our quest to defeat the pesky and improved Bullpups with no knapping at downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Coach Marshall was not happy when we beat them at our barn 90-65 after a dismal 2nd half of 44-39 in DU's favor. Lately on the cold and lonely road, we have had some blas'e first half ugliness that must not happen in this game. The 'birds that are red' did not lay an egg today at Evansville so we need to both win and improve as a team from this moment on.

The Dawgs are led by Reed Timmer who is a fine player. DU can score the ball and are 2nd in Valley Scoring Offense behind us and dead last in Valley Defense according to the Official Mo. Valley Site. They are 5-5 in this here Valley and 7-15 overall. Under Coach Rutter, they seemed to have improved as a team and will really be up for the Shocks at their house. Even so, through the years, on the road our Shocks make themselves at home, win, and then come back to their real home at 21st and Hillside and win all the more.

The Shocks 'rough ruff D-Fence' will be on them like a cheap suit to the point the Bulldogs shooting will be so cold that it will be like they are raining bulldawgsicles from the sky. Our Offense will bug them like they are infested with 'stay home' fleas. Let's hope AR is back and Smith, Shaq, and Willis really have 'their groove on' to where we are hitting on all 10 rotation cylinders. We need our bigs to control the paint and clean glass. Our Guards will do the rest as we win by 11.

    Willie McCarter--66

    Mike Marshall-- 77
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

This will be a decent measuring stick for our defense's recent improvement (it has pulled even with our offense following the Bradley game per KenPom - both are now ranked 27th in the country). I think we keep the mo rolling.

Drake plays better at their place, we tend to struggle to score on the road at times. Luckily Drake doesn't defend much, but still. We also don't always guard the perimeter well and they like to shoot a ton. Think it could be closer than we like and definitely high scoring. We SHOULD score 100, but won't since it is on the road.

          WSU - 82
          Drake - 71

I think they're going to give us a tough game. Based upon the way they've played the last 10 days or so, combined with what I saw Today.

I've been debating on driving over to Des Moines to watch this game. While looking at tickets it's being listed as a whiteout game and staff appreciation game. Looks like they will be trying to pack the house against our beloved shockers.

Is The Knapp Center the worst venue in the Valley?

Don't worry about it. You will be able to get walk up tickets.

I wasn't worried there are a lot of tickets available. I just can't decided if I want to make that two hour drive during the middle of the week.

This actually worries me a tad bit this time. I know I was making fun of Drake big time during our last meet up, but they really have it turned around with Ray Giacolletti (sp?) gone. Everyone better be wide awake for this game so we don't dig ourselves too big a hole in the first half. This has a recipe for a perfect trap game. Away game against a team that's playing much better right before our big show down of the year.

It would probably be the worst in the D2 MIAA, which is fitting, really.
