Drake shot up to #260 range after the game last night. They are officially out of the dumpster and now merely a bad team. If they can win a couple more and get to #200 range they will graduate to mediocre along with the rest of the MVC.

If you are talking strictly in terms of their current RPI rating you are correct. If you are talking about what kind of team are they putting on the floor post-Giacoletti then they are much better than those RPI numbers indicate.

Drake is certainly playing fine since Christmas but holy moley the RPI nuke they dropped on the league with their OOC performance is worthy of undying scorn.

However, if Rutter can recruit worth a lick, he may be a good long term fit. It would be a nice story for them.

This is my hope. I mean, he is taking a really bad team with zero chemistry from something like 1-10 to 6-4 (I'm counting their win over someone in the OOC right before MVC play started) over the last month. And I'm pretty sure they put their 1-10 record up against a really bad OOC strength of schedule. Now, they are 6-4 against actually decent/average level competition. I think 72 is right that they are actually playing better than their #260+ RPI would indicate. It's a new team and the only difference is that one guy left and another guy took over. Everything else is the same. He is taking an unbelievably bad team and making them respectable in exactly zero time flat. If they finish 5th or better in the MVC, he truly is my coach of the year candidate. They have about 4 or 5 more games to win to get there, but at this point, I don't see that as very crazy to expect. Like you said, if he can recruit, he may be the real deal. The bigger question after that is can he keep players from leaving for the Big 10 :)

Yeah this was the ultimate "evansvilling" of the valley. The last straw will be when they knock off Illinois State and take them out of at large range RPI right before Arch Madness, where we proceed to win the auto-bid and put Muller and the Burds into the NIT.

I want to believe you, but my lyin eyes cant. The teams WSU have played besides ISUR (gag) are horrible.

Good teams, decent teams, mediocre teams dont lose by 40. Extenuating circumstances maybe. But I just think Drake looks good because they are playing fellow garbage.
