He also mentioned that the type of defense that osu plays is difficult for the motion offense the Shox run but said it can be dealt with if the ball handler continues to go north and south. I understand the idea of this but apparently our players did not execute the way to minimize the defense.

Was the game beyond rugged? No doubt...but if you say you were out coached, then run with the kids, because ALL share a part.

BTW...BIG Marshall fan...and I don't have any glimmer into yesterday's practice beyond radio show, so this may be way off base, and if so, my apologies.
There are lots of things you can focus on, but one big thing is the kids were out toughed. A tough practice can help drive it home that maybe that game ISN'T so tough. If you can survive and fight through this practice, you can do it in the game too.

I'm also not a NCOY ... so just my opinion.

Only caught a second...but thought I heard a glimpse from coach say "he doesn't like to do that"...and think he may have been referring to Conner lack of north/south play. I kinda feel bad for Conner at this point. Seems he's playing out of position. I wonder as the season gets more into it...will we see Smith and Conner together at the 1 and 2 spots?

I'm not much more than an arm-chair coach, but our offense Saturday, and many days, is not what I consider motion offense. Please, all, feel free to enlighten me.

We really really struggled at times with any motion. Holding the ball at the top and no one coming to get it from them happened multiple times. Reaves does this way too often. Picks up his dribble in bad spots.

I don't believe dribbling is needed in what I think of a motion offense. You mostly dribble to get out of trouble or to drive/pass or shoot. The more a team dribbles the ball around the outside, IMHO, the worse the offense is working.

A fun drill is to not allow any dribbling once the player bringing up the ball gives it up after crossing midcourt.

Well .. my point was we are picking up the dribble without anyone to pass to, and then no one comes to help either. That happened multiple times. I agree, it should all be about good solid passing and spacing. We didn't have that.

Perhaps what this team needs right now is a visit from X Man and Big Dog, who I've heard can give a little pep talk about Playing Angry.

yeah, i think coach said that osu defense denies and makes you have to dribble drive penetrate. not really wsu's strong suit, is it (smith threw one down on ou with it, though)?

They better make a longer list. I don't think GM is going to take a worse job than what he has!

I was working at my desk so I was able to hear the whole show. The day after I recall 3 main points that coach made.
                          1) This was the 1st game (not counting Canada) they really missed Fred/Ron/Evan. They missed their toughness. Thought Baker would have contained Evans and Fred would have 10 drive layups.
                          2) In hindsight he thinks the coaches "scared" the players by telling them just how tough OSU was. Instead of motivating them like it would have last year, the current team played scared.
                          3) This talent has more offensive talent that any team at WSU, however the talent is not good enough to carry them in the tourney if the don't play angry. He is still looking for some leaders to step-up who will hold the other players accountable. Said lack of seniors make this tough.

I thought also kind of funny, a couple of times MK tried to downplay the loss a little saying it's not that bad and will just make the team better down the road. But coach wasn't buying it. He said the loss was bad because the team showed no courage, and every team in the valley saw that and will come out looking to get the Shocks scared. Coach speak to fire up the guys probably, but he sounded genuinely worried about the players current attitudes.

Not our strong suit because we don't have the talent or because it's just a big part of our offense?

Of Smith, Shamet, Reaves, and CF, who do you think is least likely to be able to do it, then ask yourself who probably did it best against OSU?

If I recall correctly, after they fired Doc Sanders, Marshall was at the top of Osborne's list, and they went after him hard at that time.

Not really. The name was floated, but not all that seriously, everyone knew it wouldn't happen. I read a thing a few days ago where some dilusional fans think they can get him now.
                                Not.
                                Gonna.
                                Happen.

Nebraska fans are pissed. Really pissed. They thought a new arena and top notch practice facilities would magically make them great. It's not that easy.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
