  • Revamping starting line up

After reading and listening to some of the statements by Marshall. It seems that we may have a starting 10 but some of the guys who are producing on offense have underperformed on defense somewhat. And some of the ones that do a good job on defense have yet to consistently perform on offense. Right now I'm predicting smith to start in front of Conner. I think it's been determined that Nurger will replace sShaq.
Willis and Mulder replacing brown and Kelly is up in the air.
I think Shamet is the only one safe. And I could be wrong about that.
Will be interesting how it shakes out tonight.

Don't count out Scully and Smoking Man to play a big role.

After listening to 3G last night, tonight might be a dress rehearsal for some key games to come that we really need to win. My guess for tonight. 5.Nurger 4. Willis 3. MM 2. Shamet 1. Smith. My own starters for Saturday if asked? tsk, tsk, tsk. 1. CF 2. Shamet 3.MM 4. Willis 5. Shaq. 2 losses to ranked teams have us in the chemistry seeking mode. Needed----A long win streak starting tonight. However, this won't be a cake-walk to accomplish with tough games over the horizon. Coach Marshall understands that this is a Season of ups and downs, zigs and zags, criss/crosses. etc. MM has not started but plays lots of minutes. We will need finishers as much or more than starters with this squad downstream.

The starting lineup against SNU that Suellentrop lists is:

          PG - Smith or Frankamp
          SG - Shamet
          ?F - Kelly
          ?F - Willis or McDuffie
          C - Nurger

If Sully got that right, then Kelly is apparently the SF. I don't think Willis would be a possibility there.

Unless it's McDuffie. He could definitely play the SF position.

Could Kelly be this year's Wessel?

Interesting stat, at least to me. In seven games to date, the Shockers have had multiple "game-high" leaders

                Scoring...........6
                Rebounding....5
                Assists...........5
                Steals............5
Blocks...........4 of 5 (two games without a block)

If there's a lineup shakeup, I don't see how Kelly makes the starting lineup.

In regards to Shaq, he has always had a slow start to the season. Last year we had to pull Nurger's redshirt, not only because Grady went down, but Shaq simply couldn't stay on the floor. I'd say for this game, we start Nurger over him again to give him another wake up call. He seems to keep hitting the snooze button until we dump water on him.

Here's the lineup I'd like to see for tonight:

                    Smith
                    Shamet
                    McDuffie
                    Willis
                    Nurger

I think he must think we actually signed the guy that went to Kentucky and have been secretly stashing him in the bench....

I felt there were maybe like three guys who played well in Atlantis. Nurger was probably the best all around but Smith, Willis, and McDuffie were the best of the rest IMO although all three of them, particularly McDuffie and Willis, were also incredibly frustrating at times for one reason or another.

Brown and Shaq might as well have not made the trip. Frankamp and Shamet werent far behind them. I feel like Rashard tried hard but just couldn't adjust to the competition.

Oh yeah and Reaves was good until the shoulder thing.

It was a disappointing weekend, I'm still not over it so I can only imagine what the team feels like.

It was a missed opportunity to pick up one or two signature wins. Hopefully they seize the opportunity to learn and get better.

The guy I'm glad to see start is Nurger. He might deserve it more than anyone IMO.

Edit: the coaching left something to be desired as well, IMO. Maybe it was execution not game plan but how do we still struggle that badly against a zone? Get the ball to the high post and the short corner, it's not that hard.

If the criteria is mistake free basketball as the competition gets stiffer; no.
