Meh, hopefully they'll put together a good field.

Sounds like an okay tournament although we will have to wait and see what the field looks like. This year's field included and was won by last year's National Champs. Next year's field is okay, but not great. I do like the gesture.

Maui looks good next year. WSU, Cal, LSU, Marquette, Michigan, Notre Dame, VCU and Chaminade.

There is usually 1 or 2 other solid teams in the field. Nova was there this year.

Unfortunately you can not play in the battle for atlantis or maui ever year.

Playing in these games is still more competition then Southern Nazarene or Maryland Eastern Shore

I understand what you're saying. Just feels a little underwhelming, specially when looking at next years field.

If 3G appreciates the gesture of getting him back to his roots, and I assume that he will, then this tournament has some value over and above the quality of the field. Hopefully, they will add 1 or 2 other quality names to the field in 2018 and mix in some decent mid-majors.

Getting Maui next year is now looking like perfect scheduling with things looking very positive for the Shocks next year. The following year we will be replacing 7 seniors so perhaps being in the Charleston Classic in 2018 might be more appropriate for the development of that team.

What I like about this tournament is that it is both a neat location (with potential beach weather in November) but yet it is also realistic for a good number of Shockers fans to attend. I will probably never be able to attend a Hawaii/Caribbean tournament. Now, let me make clear that I am stoked that we play in those big-time tournaments. It is great for recruiting, exposure, etc. It is just nice to have tournaments like Orlando and Charleston that aren't horribly cost-prohibitive for fans to attend...not cheap but at least realistic. I would also guess that the CBE Classic in Kansas City will probably be back in the rotation for 2019 or 2020.

Yeah, most of our more recent and future MTE's have been considerably better, but since we've been in the cream of the crop MTE's it's hard to go up from there.

I'm sure this has more to do with Marshall than the program as a whole.

This is a great tournament. Everyone I know from schools who have played in this has nothing but great things to say about Charleston and the tournament. Looking forward to making the trip!

One thing to keep in mind is that we will be replacing nearly half of our roster in 2018 .. So might be a good early season choice

Charleston is a Great City. Historic and very beautiful. Great restaurants and lots of sight seeing available. Fort Sumter is a great spot. Abner Doubleday fired the first shot in defense of the fort. The Parks Service tour guides used to tell people he was the one who invented modern baseball but that seems to now be a myth. The late Pat Conroy who I feel is a great southern author and is one of our coaches favorite authors as well was a resident of Charleston and a graduate of the Citadel. A book that HCGM likes is "My Losing Season" written by Pat Conroy when he was a point guard at the Citadel. I will enjoy going back to that great city and watching our Shocks.

Bet it will be a better lineup of teams than ye ol' Cessna Classic

                          Next season,,,,, Hawaii is ours!

"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Seems pretty clear this was done with Coach Marshall in mind and completed by the AD that continues to do good things for our program, Darron Boatright. Well done (again) sir.
