  • Shocker Locker Room Show

Well, I called in to the show to ask Ted for some insight on Reeves and Shamet as a Ron and Fred 2.0. However they hung up on me because they would not let me use my Shockernet handle, DUShock. Too bad as I had a four game statistical comps. I guess they don't take calls from teetotaling sober people. I tried to help the show with a serious question. Oh well I really enjoy the show I hope it lasts without any callers.

Edit: Thankfully they did up with two calls.

Those must have occurred after I had driven out of reception range.

The conversation went like this: "Thank you for calling the Shocker Locker Room Show, what is your first name."
      "DUShock," I said.

"No really, what is your first name?"

      "DUShock, you know from ShockerNet."

In years past for pregame and the coachs' show we have been able to use our ShockerNet handles. It was worth a try.

They didn't hang up on you because you tried to use a ShockerNet handle, they hung up on you because your name wasn't Ron or Dennis.

But why wouldn't you just use your real first name instead of your handle from SN? If not, just use a random name and not some handle from an anonymous message board?

Back in the day, several of us would call in to the pregame and Coachs' show with our Shockernet handles and everyone knew what it meant and who it was. It wasn't the aversion to my real name, heck, I didn't have the opportunity to converse. It is no big deal, I just shared it because others here, old timers, which includes me, used to do this. I may try again, I guess MK's crew is more laid back than Ted's. I only called in because I honestly felt bad for Ted not having any callers and I like the show. In fact I can't get enough Shocker basketball talk during the season. I wish them well and hope the show survives with little to no callers.

Does it just need to become the Shockernet Locker Room Show?

During the Turgeon era they usually had an assistant coach on the show once he got there... getting him there immediately after the game seemed to be a challenge. Of course they couldn't filter all the 'idiot' callers, but the show had more calls and was usually entertaining with some good laughs. I really like 'Ted The Sports Head', but I get tired of listening to him talk non-stop waiting for callers; of course it's not his fault... he can either talk or go to a commercial. He could sure use a knowledgable side-kick to make the show more interesting; maybe bring in former players like Jason Perez or Evan Wessel to elevate the interest. A players perspective might peak interest.

The show would probably receive more calls if the team 'sucked'; the arm-chair quarterbacks would start coming out of the woodwork again. So I guess I can live with listening to Ted if that means we're winning most of our games. For some reason I thought the show only aired after home games? Ted mentioned a 'Shocker Locker Room Show' following the games on Wednesday and Friday. Is this something new?
