Jimmy Whitt wasn’t a focal point for SMU when attacking WSU and Conner’s minutes were shared with others. Conner didn’t guard Shake Milton or Jamahl McMurray.

      • So the sentiment now is that Conner is a defensive liability?

          • This is silly. Teams / players try to go after him, but only have success with mid range jumpers.

The baskets in out our losses are not coming against CF.

bonus thought - the last time UNI slowed a game down like last year and their guard was unguard-able... CF was the one that slowed him down.

            • Everyone has holes in their game. We start 2 guys that are no offensive threat whatsoever. Pick your poison.

I am actually getting ready to post in the game thread about this. IMO we have too many 1 way players.

The 1 way players comment is interesting and got me thinking. I definitely agree. But I think the key is that we don't have many two way GUARDS that were very good on both sides. The only true two way guard we have is Austin. Landry is improved but his consistency leaves him as a mediocre defender and Connor has limitations and is only a little above average. But if you go back over the years we've always had a couple two way guards. Fred, Tekele, Ron, Malcolm, Toure, and Kyles(he's the fringiest of these, but his shot kept teams honest) to name a few.

            • It is a team game. Win as a team. Lose as a team. Conner has helped us win many games. I say we keep him. :joyous:

              • It's really unfortunate too because when those 2 play within their abilities, they're not liabilities. Zach Brown shooting the 3 should be a rarity, but every game it seems like he has 4 or 5 attempts. I wish he would take the Kelly route and realize he's just not a deep threat. Kelly has seemed to have gotten better at finishing drives and hitting bunnies.

I know this thread is about Frankamp, but you're spot on about Zach. He's the weakest three-point shooter of the non-bigs, and I'm not even sure he's better than some of the bigs. Yet he seems very willing to launch, even when there's still plenty of time to get a better shot; and I'm guessing SMU was perfectly content to see him fire away.

Yeah, I am going to help drown out the B.S. in this thread. CF is a stud. We need him, and we're lucky to have him.

                • I find it interesting that people are now feeling that CF is a defensive liability. Well ok tell me who can defend a quick guard or 2 man? Shamet cannot Austin cannot and Brown cannot. It is a weakness in our team. We do not have guys that have lateral quickness. Yes CF is probably the slowest but not the only issue. Part of the reason we have a issue with the pick and roll is because our guards are not quick enough to fight through the first screen

hate to constantly compare to Fred and Ron, but those guys were not super quick or super athletic. Fighting through a screen is about understanding angles and pure WANT TO. LS and ZB are more athletic than both those guys. I don't buy the we aren't quick enough argument.

                    • Agree that angles and want to are most important. However saying Ron was not as athletic is wrong and Fred was just a winner and did whatever it took to win. However when Fred played against the KY and such he had real problems with staying in front of his man. Sorry but you can say ZB and LS are more athletic and I agree, but they cannot stay in front of quick guards

Austin absolutely can. He's sooo good at getting front and drawing charges on as a primary defender on the ball(his size does help him sell it, but he still beats the handler to the spot).

                        • Watch the game from last night. He was beat off the dribble several times.
