The way I understood it is that the students that stayed for the entire women's game were given wrist bands that would allow them first access to the men's game/best seats. When the men's game came around, the maniacs went back on that and let other students in first, relegating those who had attended the women's game to whatever was left. The people saying it, seemed to think that it wasn't necessarily just this game, but an overall distaste for the "Shocker Maniacs" group and actions like this that has driven a lot of the other students away. I heard something pretty similar said by a couple of students last year. That being said, if you aren't going to attend, then don't pick up the tickets and take that opportunity away from someone who would gladly pay to have one of those seats.

MJbaker84, this may answer your concern about all the open seats. I assume you are referring to the student section. I found out more background about it on Facebook. It seems at Shocker Maniacs (student section) came up with an idea to support the Women's game with Creighton in the afternoon, so that meant they were not able to attend both the men's & women's games. But, for the women's game, they were given wrist bands so they could sit wherever they wanted to. As it turned out, they were not allowed to do so, so they are pretty unhappy about it. I don't know if there is a certain section reserved for season ticket holders at the women's games or not. If there is, I can certainly see why the students wouldn't have been allowed to sit in those particular seats. On the other hand, I doubt if the women's team sells very many season tickets. It does look like they are going to be a very good team this year because they defeated Creighton by 8 pts & they are co-favorite picks to win the Big East.

There are 4 lower bowl sections (2 on each side) reserved seating for season ticket holders and individual game reserved seat purchases. Finding a very good seat outside of those 4 lower bowl sections is not an issue in any way shape or form.
