Said the Shocks are who he thought they were. At times they look fantastic and at other times they look like they have never been coached.
Said Augusta's Keshun Sherrill had a shooting night that may have only been rivaled by Andrew Goudelock's game in the NIT a few years back during his coaching career. However, Goudelock just kept stepping out farther when they attempted to guard him. Sherrill just moved like crazy to get open and was hitting shots from everywhere often with the hand of a much taller player in his face.
South Carolina State picked to finish a close 2nd to Howard in the MEAC this year. Howard has the nation's leading scoring returning. SCS has a preseason 1st team and a preseason 2nd team MEAC guards on the roster.Last edited by 1972Shocker; November 7, 2016, 07:27 PM. -
Shaq had a couple of questionable no-calls on him that 3G said he made sure he pointed out. Said he has been on him all fall to make sure he focuses on staying on the floor because he showed what he can do when he stays on the floor.
3G didn't realize Darrall was so never until he got into the game. Says he is going to have to get use to it because we aren't going down to Pearl River to play our games. Darrall does have the talent.
Daishon Smith has done a nice job of integrating himself into the Shocker's system. His problem is just getting his athleticism into the game with consistent focus and intensity.
Connor did a great job of running the team. Most please with his defense. Digging down in the post and stealling an attempted pass to the post. Also picked off a few nice rebounds especially late.
Austin is really good at feeding the post. He has a very good feel for the game. Not the fastest guy in the world.Comment

Coming up on early signing period.
Has probably travelled more this fall than ever recruiting the class of 2018 thinking they had no scholarships to give next year. With Peyton Allen leaving school they have the 1 scholarship and they will be signing at least 1 and maybe 2 this month in the Class of 2017.
Told the players that his job is getting as many of his players to be playing as close tp 100% of their potential as possible. Right now they are not close to that so they can expect him to keep pushing them towards that goal.
Fred is the best winner he has ever been around. Same thing with Ron. They do all the little things to make a team better. That's why they are in the NBA.
Darral Willis was the bull in the high school and juco pasture. But now he is finding it he can't just bully people around. He has to learn to play team basketball.
Markis now likes taking his shirt off and looking at himself in the mirror but 3G says they have to be more than just body builders. They have to develop good basketball players.Comment

Landry has a great understanding of the game. A real smart kid and and every day guy. Likes to practice and work on his game. He will get better has he gets stronger.
Another 10 to 15 lbs of muscle and Landry will be a real problem.
Probalby will be playing a rotation of 10 to 11 in most games but sometimes a player just doesn't have that night like Darral Willis against Augusta.
Darral, Eric, Rauno can play both the 4 and 5. Markis the 3 and 4. Will be looking at Zach at the 3 and maybe some at the 2.
Outrebounded Augusta by 11 which was okay. Not a great defensive rebounding team. A lot of one-handed rebounders which you can tell is not something that brings a smile to 3G's face. Still have to work a lot with the "get back" coaching.Comment

The non-conference schedule is very good and not just the Power5 teams.
South Carolina State has 4 starters back including 6-3 Sr Eric Reaves who averaged 17+ PPG last year and 6-2 Jr Ed Stephens who averaged 13 PPG last year.
Long Beach State will be really tough. Favored to win the Big West this year.Comment

Mike sensed that 3G, in light of Fred, Ron and Evan moving on, may be excited about the prospect of coaching up a group of less experienced guys. 3G said he was surprised Mike could not distinguish between excitement and anxiety and nervousness. He thought he could read people better than that.Comment

Well he did say maybe and he also said they are used to being turned down. Could be they have someone they just can't pass up if they get a yes.
