I look forward to the day when legitimate quantitative analytics (kenpom, haslametrics, etc.) are given more weighting by the public than human polls.

For most of Marshall's tenure we have been terrifically undervalued by the human polls, yet our on court performance has fully supported our higher analytics rankings.

I'm right with you. This early in the season they might not be as reliable (just with a small sample size), but by the end of the year, I find them much more reliable than human polls.

It'll happen eventually. Just look at the extent to which analytics are used in baseball nowadays.

I think the tally is fine, it takes some pressure off the team heading into the holiday tournament. Traditionally we do not fair well when ranked and headed into a holiday tournament.

Our Shocks have been ranked in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

When ranked headed into a holiday tournament we are 4-4 (.500 winning percentage) so I will take not being ranked headed into this tournament.

                  Absolutely!

I think it's a little early to kvetch about our rankings. What I've seen so far is a very pleasant (and unexpected) surprise, but have we REALLY played anyone who is good yet?

So far, we've played a couple of teams who are middling (South Carolina State and Long Beach State) and a couple of bad teams. We didn't plan the schedule this way, but sometimes this is how the schedule works out. I'm sure everyone is a little surprised that LBS is not having the same type of season as they've had for the last couple of years. The game looked good on paper, but I suspect LBS is a dog.

I think we will have a really good team, but it's a little difficult to tell right now. For instance, LBS was down by 20 to Carolina at half. We only had them down by 12. I'm sure that Cheatin' Roy rested his regulars some in the second half, which allowed them to end up with the same point spread as we had.

That being said, it's very obvious that we have a tremendously deep team, probably deeper than Carolina. I'm just not sure right now that we could stand toe-to-toe with them for 40 minutes. I hope we can get some of those big guys in the B4A so we can really see how good this team is.

Take care of business this week, make it to the championship of the B4A and we'll have something to complain about if we continue to be overlooked.

And no matter what else, outside Northern Iowa, no one in the valley will be able to touch us this year.

Or, 4-1 when not playing a 4th string PG. I'm not upset that we aren't ranked right now, but I'll take being ranked over not being ranked all day. This is a big boy program now. If the players get tinkle-syndrome because there is a number next to their name, they need to get that figured out before March anyway.

LBSU, after starting out 1-0, has gone on the road to WSU, UNC, Lousville, and UCLA. I doubt anyone expected them to win any of those games. TBD how good they are.

Indiana and Villanova both received first-place votes in this week's college basketball Associated Press Top 25 , but the Kentucky Wildcats are the new No. 1 team in the poll...

Projections indicate a 16-16 record with a first place tie in the Big West. That's not what I would call in the caliber of some of the other teams we're playing in the non-con.

Might want to edit your post to show a link to page 7, instead of 8. Could confuse a few link-clickers.
