  • Kickoff Lunchon

Anyone hear anything about the kickoff luncheon they usually have? Will there be one this year?

WICHITA, Kan. -- Fans can enjoy an early Thanksgiving-style meal and meet members of the men's and women's basketball teams, Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Shocker Basketball Tipoff Luncheon.

Kickoff, thought I'd missed the announcement that football was back
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Attended the Tip-off luncheon today. HCGM was his usual clever self.

Says he is trying to schedule the BJs, but can't. This is his toughest non-con schedule in 19 years of coaching. Team needs to work on competitiveness and staying healthy. He doesn't know who the starting five will be for Saturday (wants to reward effort in practice). Some of the team ate with us (big hand for JRS) , but had to leave to lift, then practice right after that. He loves our length and athleticism and knows when it all comes together - it will be special. A few seats remain for exhibition and season opener.

        Go Shocks!

HCGM also mentioned that transition D has also been a problem with newer guards. Something to watch for during the exhibition game. The set defense is good, defense vs. breakaway dunk attempts is not.

For those of us that question his counting skills, he mentioned that the women's team (16 players) has more players that his team ... 15 players. I did not have the stones to correct him.

I could have sworn he said Zach Bush was on scholarship (in addition to JRS). If anyone else that was there heard differently, please let me know. I assume I misunderstood.

It was great to see Evan Wessel attend as well. I have a feeling that he is going to be present for a lot Shocker events.

I believe what he said was that JR earned his scholarship (this year) as did Zach when he got his partial scholarship three or four years ago when he took the remaining semester of Bowles scholarship when Bowles couldn't play because of his heart condition. I don't think Zach is on scholarship this year.

                Thanks. That makes sense.

DJ had his problems in Sept 2013 as a freshman, which would make him a senior this year if he stayed at WSU. I don't know if he continued on at the school but I did read his four-year scholarship would be honored, just not as an athletic scholarship.

I know he was back the following year and I thought last year. Just curious as to whether he was here this year. C'mon Shoxlax you should know this.
