Southern Illinois athletic director Tommy Bell gave voice to those feelings during a radio interview with Mike Reis of Saluki Sports Today, a university-produced show. Reis asked Bell about the Big 12’s recent decision to not expand and how that affects Wichita State and the MVC. Wichita State president John Bardo linked Big 12 expansion to WSU’s situation, thinking that a move by the Big 12 might open opportunities in another conference for the Shockers.




“I think they’re a little bit big for their britches, and you can quote me on that,” Bell said.

Oh, I'm sorry. We actually want to compete at the national level and strive for excellence...you know, what Southern Illinois tried to do in men's basketball in the 2000s decade.

This. When you have outgrown your britches you try to find a bigger pair of britches. I agree with the SIU AD wholeheartedly. We have outgrown our Valley britches (or is that bitches).

To be clear, the reason WSU is trying to get out is because it has owned this league and the league isn't showing signs of keeping up. He would be correct if it was Illinois State saying they want a better conference, or case in point, when Missouri State said they want to take their 10 fans in the empty stadium and go FBS. Folks, THAT is too big for your britches, not a school operating at a higher level for years on end saying they want to pursue other conferences that are more like-minded. If anything, WSU is closer to "staying in the MVC long past the point when the MVC was a good fit competitively" than "acting too big for it's britches"

Like Suellentrop said, this is very simple...either get better and end the discussion or stop complaining and admit what is going on. The MVC probably wants so badly for WSU to suck this year. I hope Marshall and the team smoke the Valley with all these newcomers. Let's quit acting like the only reason WSU was any good was Ron and Fred. There is more to come, and the MVC isn't going to like it.

WSU isn't so much "too big for its britches" as the balance of the MVC has chronic wasting disease and needs to drop down a size or three.

Baseball, as much as we may love it, has next to zero impact on the college landscape and conference realignment.

Wouldn't want to go to a school where the AD complains about others striving for excellence and looking for better opportunities.
