A little surprised this hasn't attracted more discussion although that wouldn't change anything. It is what it is and I hope Darren proves to be a very successful athletic director.
Whether or not it portends poorly for bringing football back is hard to say. I can understand that sentiment, but you just never know for sure.
In any case, I want to wish the best of luck and good fortune to Darren. Not that those wishes will have any bearing on his job performance.Last edited by 1972Shocker; August 28, 2016, 07:29 PM.

I understand wanting to reach, and there's nothing wrong with that. But this is a great decision in the here and now.
Darron has done a fantastic job managing Gregg and men's basketball and the scheduling. And if ANY of you think that's easy, well then there's no helping you.
Frankly, that's ALL that he needs to do well.
But he's also handled the other duties as deftly as an "interim" can. Perhaps he is still a work in progress. He's only 40, but I think incredibly mature for his age.
He's an excellent manager of people. He has a lot of contacts. And yeah, he may not be a football guy, but he's a new conference guy, and if that CAN get done, Darron is the only guy that is GOING to get it done.
This is a great hire and the right move for WSU in the here and now, period.

I will add, that my concern isn't football but based on a conversation I had where I asked about the lack of parking for Bold Gold and the removal of the Centery Club benefits and his reply was "write a bigger check".
I fear that based on this comment and how quickly he exited that families and the "Dave Stallworth Faithful" are not even an after thought. This being said, I do hope that he does well as that likely means my alma mater's programs are doing well.

I have nothing but the greatest respect for DB and this comes from what I saw of him during the time of my wife Debbie's fight with cancer, A special recognition had been set up by the athletic department to dedicate a game to her. There was a bomb threat made earlier on that particular day and the dedication was cancelled in light of other concerns. DB contacted me and extended an invitation to Debbie and myself to attend a closed practice. DB met us in the parking lot and walked with us to the practice and contacted 3G to let him know we had arrived. 3G introduced himself and talked to her about the need to set goals and stay positive. Introduce her to the team and gave her an autographed poster of the team. The team lined up and each one introduce himself and hugged her. We stayed until she tired and DB never left her side. He could have easily had someone else take on this task but he did it and stayed and escorted us back to the parking lot and wished us both the best. I don't write a big check but that did not seem to be important to him. I have seen DB several times since Debbie's passing and he still nods and smiles when we see each other. I wish him and our Shockers nothing but the best and continued success.
