Indeed, Van Vleet said he could have been picked twice midway through the second round, 47th and 54th overall, but told the two teams he wasn't interested in their developmental plans. He said both teams wanted to stash him in the NBA Development League for two years, where he would be "slaving away for $20,000 a year."
Instead, he plans to sign somewhere as an undrafted free agent.
"Everyone wants to get drafted, but in the end it's about the money. I am already getting offers for $50,000, $100,000 just to come to training camp to try out," Van Vleet told the crowd with a microphone from a stage immediately after the draft.
