The thing I try to keep reminding myself is that Wichita State is breaking the mold by being an elite team in a mid major conference. When you play in the Valley, there is definitely a difference between the way Illinois State goes 17-1 and the way Wichita State goes 17-1. One is very respectable and puts you on the bubble by itself, and combined with some quality non conference victories would put you safely in the field. The way Wichita State does it demonstrates an elite team exerting dominance over its conference foes. This causes a divergence between analytic tools and the traditional metrics in a way that is not usually done, and provides evidence why the RPI should be discontinued.You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....
