Well, maybe next year the ranking and seed will end up more closely matching Pomeroy's metric than they did this year (AP #19 and 10 seed vs. #8 KenPom adjusted margin). Pomeroy also seems to like WSU a bit more for next season than The Sporting News does. In any case, it should be fun.

        Vick
        Svi
        Preston
        Azubuhke
        Top 30 guard
...and the author is currently counting on Bragg and maybe Graham.
Graham will be back, but if he isn't, and the above is their team, that is terrible. Top 30 freshman point guard, to go with that group? Preston better amazing. Best case scenario, Bragg, Svi and Graham leave, and with that group KU's tourney streak will be in serious jeopardy.

With that said, I'm expecting all 3 to return and KU to be top 25, though not top 5 or even 10 (caliber, as the Big 12 will piss down their leg to give them another 1/2 seed). I long ago quit having hope of KU not having good following seasons.

Also, reading through that top 25, college basketball next year is going to be great. Lots of big time returning players.

        • Wichita State is a "boutique basketball club." From Yahoo Sports:

"In addition to the Big East schools and Gonzaga, there are a few others who could be considered in the boutique basketball club: Wichita State, which might be headed to the American Athletic Conference any day now, springs to mind. VCU and Dayton have had great runs of late, the Rams going to seven straight NCAA tourneys and the Flyers to four, but now both must replace their coaches."

The prevailing trend in college sports is for the rich to get richer – more money and more trophies for the five major conferences, a Darwinian consolidation of power in the hands of 65 schools that have all the advantages. Villanova, which won it last year, plays football at the FCS level. Gonzaga hasn’t played football since World War II.

Sorry, just included since some (me, haha) couldn't see it as plain text.

From a basketball standpoint, the key for boutique programs beyond financial commitment and fan backing is coaching continuity. Jay Wright at Villanova, Gregg Marshall at Wichita State and Mark Few at Gonzaga have stayed put and built power programs that dominate their leagues.
The other Wichita reference is listed here. A good read, and boutique isn't bad by any means.

So is Villanova. That was the point of the article.

                        • @bighouse: , so is 'Nova and they were a focal point of the argument. UConn wasn't mentioned either. BE isn't P5 despite what the cretins think.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

I can't agree more. The top teams in the P5 are at another level budget and talent wise. The football television money (the money poured into facilities) combined with Top basketball schools in those leagues make them compete for a national title yearly. The other P5 schools, the Big East, and some of the AAC may be competitive a year or a couple of years in a row, then they have wind back up for another run at the national title in a few years.

I get so tired of media who say P6 because it isn't that way. Teams like k State don't have a chance either.

Teams like KState have a chance if they have the right coach.
Frank Martin went to an Elite Eight, and won 6 tourney games in five years
Dominance is a state of mind.

But he was too mean for K-State.

I guess they forgot that Snyder put trash cans all over the weight room for the players to puke in during his 1st year there, pretty sure Martin never did that.
