    Real Conversation

Me: All of the metrics except one (top 50 wins) point to us getting in

Them: But Top 50 wins are the most important

    Me: Why is that?

Them: Because it indicates you are beating the best of the best, teams that are tournament worthy

Me: Do you know what our RPI is? 47. So we are not tournament worthy because our record against an elite category which we are a part of is not that good. We are the measuring stick for others but are not good enough to get in the tourney?

    Them: Whatever

I fear that top 50 wins are more important than I would personally have them.

You are missing my point. As long as we stay in the Top 50 RPI they really can't have it both ways

Logically they cant.. but they have done it before ... multiple times. Thankfully I think we have enough OTHER arguments, that it wont matter.

I guess I do miss your point.

He is saying that if top 50 wis are all that important, being in that actual top 50 should be a pretty crucial as well.

It would seem so, but obviously it is not.

Shoxlax is onto a good solid point of argument here.

It is weird. Shouldn't your ranking in the RPI be a result of your record vs. 1-50, 51-100, etc.? They double count, essentially.

Not along the same line, but another "I gotcha". I had a guy at work tell me he thinks there are chemistry issues. I told him I disagreed, but would love to know why he thought so. When his next statement was about Fred's tattoo being the cause of or result of said chemistry issue, I wished I'd never asked.

clearly his psychology degree was wasted.

And here we are at the annual discussion of how the committee is told to use the RPI. It's to judge good wins and bad losses. Nothing else. A team's own RPI doesn't matter when discussing their worthiness. Right or wrong, logical or not. That's how it's always been.

I'm just thankful a committee member has the latitude to evaluate teams using more than just their RPI "dance card".

Wow. That sounds like the type of person who sucks IQ points from everyone they speak with.
