If Monmouth/Valpo were ahead of WSU on the S-Curve but only in the tournament as an automatic bid (outside of the bubble as an at-large team), then their losses last night again did nothing to improve our odds since, although we jumped them on the S-Curve, no at-large team was displaced. Last night's losses could only have hurt our odds and could not have improved them. It is a little surprising that you have both of these teams behind us in the pecking order given your proclamation that we are a long shot for an at-large bid. I too am confident they are behind us on the S-Curve.

You are correct the fate of Mono and Valpo neither helped or hurt WSU's chances since they are from a one bid league and neither has any chance to make it as an at-large, but you are the one who brought it up first.

Bid thieves certainly do shrink the bubble. You said the odds were 3 to 2 against our inclusion in the field though - were you banking on many unlikely scenarios like the one above playing out?

Exactly, it's the bottom feeders from P5 conferences you have to worry about if you are rooting for WSU to get a bid. If three or four teams play their way in this week, WSU's odds go down if all the chalk wins then WSU's tourney odds go up....pretty simple stuff. they are a bubble team after all. And yes you have to expect some upsets because there always are but thats something neither of us can control.

A wager on a 60% likelihood at 50/50 odds is a dumb bet? Come on, you have posted enough about your Vegas adventures that we know you don't believe this. Professional gamblers would kill for that risk profile.

I'll happily take a $500 donation to SASO in the name of "ShockerNet's Play Angry" if you insist. However, I am disappointed because I thought a bet would be fun given the apparent confidence of your assessment of our odds.
As a rule I hate prop bets and thats all this is. Neither of us have any control over whats going to happen in other conference tourney's ....it's like my buddies wanting to bet the flop is all RED or all BLACK when we play OMAHA, it's fun, but no control. When I handicap a game or play around of golf for $$ I like to do so with info or practice time that helps take some of the gamble out of it. That being said I will donate the $500 in ur name, because the bottom line I really don't want to root against the shox making the NCAA, I want them in. However I was hoping for you to choose a charity like say Rainbows United that helps children. It doesn't have to be Rainbows but I give enough to SASO and they are not exactly what I had in mind for a charity. Let me know if you are set on SASO if so I'll do it.

I havent waffled at all, it's a pointless prop bet that I don't want to win. I want the shox in the NCAA. Thats why I conceded to pay it off to a charity, I don't want to root against WSU.....Are you just stupid or dumb??

No need to put it in my name, but Fisher House Foundation is a phenomenal destination for any funds you'd like to give. They are a wonderful organization in my experience.

Regular season champion should get the NCAA auto bid. Conference tourney champion should get an NIT auto bid with the ability to defer if an at large NCAA bid is also earned.

This way all the best teams always play in the dance and there is still a reasonable reward for the conference tourney champ. Your 200 rpi bid thieves will be playing in the NIT instead, which is still good and it's way closer to what that team deserves for one hot weekend.

I prefer OOC SoS as a tie breaker. That would force the Evansville's of the world to schedule somebody in the non-con.

Who would pay to attend a tournament where the only thing at stake is a glorified participation ribbon?

I don't like conference tournaments either, but for these reasons they will not go away any time soon:

                      - Conference dollars.
                      - Host city dollars.
                      - Gives bubble teams an opportunity to improve their resume.
                      - Gives teams like Illinois State, Evansville and UNI something to continue working hard for in February.
                      - The fans of those aforementioned schools.

My personal thanks to @WillieJeffJeffries: for making donations to both the Fisher House Foundation and Rainbows United as pledged above. Both very deserving causes.

He also made those donations under the name "Play Angry" at "ShockerNet," which means two things:

                          (1) The book keepers at those organizations are going to be very intrigued by what a Play Angry and a ShockerNet are; and
                          (2) Extra kudos are in order for not taking the available write-off.

                          A very nice gesture.

I had never heard of Fisher House, what a great cause! I am working on donating my frequent flier miles and hotel points that are going unused, which is another way you can help our injured military and their families.

This is cool! Not everyone is in a position to be able to do something like that, but for someone who is in such a position, it's a very cool thing to do.

my father in law is a vet that was paralyzed for about 9 months. My wife and mother in law stayed at a Fisher house in STL while he was recovering. There are no words to describe how great of an organization the Fisher House is.
