Conference tournaments are idiotic. Why play 18 games so some POS team can wind up stealing the bid in a 3 day tourney?

You said yesterday in the quote above that the odds against Wichita State receiving a bid are 3 to 2. Last night, Monmouth and Valparaiso lost - disaster! The odds must have moved even further in favor of our exclusion.

However, being the generous fella I am, I would be willing to betcha straight up (even odds) that we receive an at-large bid on Selection Sunday. While I realize this must look foolish on my end, since my disadvantage is at least 3 to 2 against, I guess I just love extreme long shots that fly in the face of inarguable rationality. Your risk adjusted return really is unbeatable in such a scenario.

Shall we say $500? The winner can direct the winnings be deposited with a charity of their choice, in the winner's name, instead of receiving the payout if they choose to do so.

You are wrong, I believe Valpo and Monmouth losing helps WSU, IMO they are not above WSU in the At-large pecking order, so them losing helps WSU. What you should fear is someone like LSU and S Carolina making a deep run in the SEC tourney and then have someone like Georgia win the thing. Thats extreme but thats the kind of thing that would fook WSU. I do stick by my statement the NCAA is looking for any reason to get LSU in and a couple SEC wins may do it. But the odds on WSU making the tourney are going to change daily leading up to tourney selection and are out of my control, so thats a dumb bet, but I tell you what, PM your charity and I will donate $500 in the name of Play Angry.....I'm serious.

Considering they are being labeled the "most polarizing bubble team of all time", I would have to disagree with you.

If no one cared, no one would be talking about them; and they have been taking a lot.

In a normal year, our resume is far too bad to make the tourney. This year. SMU and Louisville can't go, and losses have mounted all over D1 basketball. 68 teams have to go to the tournament. If not WSU, who? Can't look just at wins Vs top 50 or 100 or 68 teams wouldn't make the tournament. I think the shocks are in.

Now, part of the reason they are in might be from the success of the last four years. Think about that and let me see a show of hands on who thought 15 years ago the Shocks would make an NCAA tournament because of their reputation of success?

The program has come along way. Enjoy the ride, even if this year was frustrating at times.

I've been saying that forever! I hate automatic bids in general...but if you have to award them, give them to the conference champ. You can still have the tourney, just not for that reason.

The mechanics of your analysis is wrong. If Monmouth/Valpo were behind WSU on the S-Curve all along (and on the wrong side of the bubble as your post yesterday indicates we are), their losses last night did nothing to improve our odds since no at-large team was displaced. If Monmouth/Valpo were ahead of WSU on the S-Curve but only in the tournament as an automatic bid (outside of the bubble as an at-large team), then their losses last night again did nothing to improve our odds since, although we jumped them on the S-Curve, no at-large team was displaced. Last night's losses could only have hurt our odds and could not have improved them. It is a little surprising that you have both of these teams behind us in the pecking order given your proclamation that we are a long shot for an at-large bid. I too am confident they are behind us on the S-Curve.

Bid thieves certainly do shrink the bubble. You said the odds were 3 to 2 against our inclusion in the field though - were you banking on many unlikely scenarios like the one above playing out?

A wager on a 60% likelihood at 50/50 odds is a dumb bet? Come on, you have posted enough about your Vegas adventures that we know you don't believe this. Professional gamblers would kill for that risk profile.

I'll happily take a $500 donation to SASO in the name of "ShockerNet's Play Angry" if you insist. However, I am disappointed because I thought a bet would be fun given the apparent confidence of your assessment of our odds.

I'm just wondering why Mr. Vegas can never make a bet, even when setting his own parameters.

He's waffling faster than Jerry Palm at this point.

Nah, if someone is willing to throw five hundred bucks into the SASO coffers under my SN screen name for nothing in return, power to 'em.
