Sadly, Kelly is more Wessel than Carr or Levingston at this point. I'm slowly beginning to just put my expectations of points for him at very low, similar to a couple years ago with Wessel. I just gave up being frustrated at some of the offensive production because it's just not what they do well. They do everything else extremely well, and Kelly still has a huge ceiling, but for what ever reason he has a major deficiency at the rim. It's bizarre.

It's extremely frustrating the difference in how things are called in the post when you compare Koch/Olejniczak and Morris. Maybe if Shaq flopped everytime somebody breathed on him.

Then again, I'll take just manning the f*** up and winning by 25.
Shaq flopping would get called as a Flagrant Foul on Shaq .... against the floor.

He's showing progress though, and he's shown a big increase in confidence to drive, which is something that sets him apart. He has some great moves and is crazy athletic. He still has 2 more years to grow here.

        • If my backup forward can give me 6pts 8rbs 2ast 1blk and 1to, I feel good about my chances to win.

If anyone is dumping Kelly shares, I'm a buyer.

            • Interesting postgame comment from Marshall about the "physicality" involved in the ISUr game.

I only heard what he said on the court to Bruce, so I'm not sure if that's what you were talking about. It was interesting hearing him talk about a couple of "cheapies" that "we just went along with" vs. IlSt. Sounded like he was insinuating we allowed them to out tough us, or punch us in the mouth without punching back. I've always thought Muller was dirty and coached his team to be the same way, so it wasn't really surprising that they'd have "cheapies". The first shot to FVV's face and the refs calling it a regular foul was just a green light for them to play as dirty as they wanted. I also thought the tetherball national championship team comment was humorous.

I'm sure stats wouldn't show the same, as his minutes are usually only available during clean up time or when others are in foul trouble. But I agree with @asiseeit in this case. Rauno isn't spectacular at anything, but he seems to do exactly what is asked of him, and IMO seems to be adjusting to the new rules better than our other bigs and still playing defense pretty effectively.
Next to BushW at 7.8, Nurger's 7.7 fouls per 40 minutes is the highest on the team.

Yes but Bush put the ball in the hole!

He did. It was a step in the right direction to being back to where he was in late February and March last year. I hope he continues toward that point.

                        • and bush caught the pass too. I'm not sure which part was the more uncharacteristic feat.

Here's what I come up with from goshockers.com:

                            Bush W - 8.21 fouls per 40 minutes

                            Nurger -- 7.67 fp40

                            Morris --- 7.44 fp40

                            Grady --- 6.84 fp40 (over last 5 games, 11.94 fp40)

                            • I think the moral of the story here is that ALL of our guys foul a ton. All of them would foul out of every game if they stayed on the court.

                              • We shall see. I guarantee you if we can get in the tournament, all the sudden a lot of this "we foul way too much" stuff will suddenly disappear.
