Shockers next great point guard a couple

Could be here already. Went to Topeka last year with a couple of east high fans to watch a high school game. East win that night but there was a guy in the other team that stood out head and shoulders above the rest. I remember thinking this guy reminds me of vanvleet but taller. Vision, bbiq, pinpoint rhythmatic passes he was making it happen on the scoring end as well. I.e. Vanvleet yesterday.
When the wsu roster and pics come out for this season this one guy looked familiar and yep it was the same guy I saw playing point in Topeka. This morning I went back and watched some high school highlights and the way he played that night in Topeka was consistent with the highlights. I know we can't always go by highlight and viewing of a single game. But I'm ready to go on a limb and say the pg skills and IQ I observed in high school can equate to a d-1 pg. not just good but very very good.
Landry Shamet could be the next great one for us.

not hating on your post...but this is old news...if he wasnt hurt he was going to backup fred, and possibly start when fred went down.

Don't recall him being mentioned as s point. What I do recall is when he did play he played a two with or without Fred on the floor.
And it was my understanding that they wet looking at Conner as back up.
Right now that plan seems to be on the back burner. But if the plan was/is to develop Shamet as the next point guard that would be great.
Him and frank amp could be vanvleet and baker 2.0

from the looks of it...comparing Frankamp to Baker or Fred is stretch and its gonna take more then Ive seen for me to make those comparisons...and thats not a knock on Conner just much respect for batman and robin

While I agree, Conner has shown some really impressive stuff during times when Fred and Ron are both sitting. He has good handles, court vision, and passing ability to go along with his shooting. He is BY FAR the team leader in the TO per minute category. Pretty sure he still only has 3 TOs all year.

I'm curious to see what he does as far as directing the offense and play-making going forward, as he has been pretty reserved thus far. Starting from the point of taking care of the ball, and increasing your aggressiveness from there is most certainly not the worst plan I've ever seen. But we need more from him, not only next year, but in the next 10 weeks, if we're going to do what I think we can do.

While Landry is a stellar player, Ty is the PG of the future. That is why he got the reps over LS. Not saying LS won't play some PG a la Toure Murry, Ron Baker- but he won't be the PG going forward at this time.

Remember when Ron looked light years ahead of Fred? Then Fred started to catch up. It takes PG longer to come into their own. Give Ty time. His biggest strength is he wants to be here and is willing to be coached. HCGM believes in him, so right now I do too.

Does he at this point? I don't recall FVV being behind a victory cigar walk-on at his position.

I don't know. Not encouraging at this point, IMO.

I didn't at all mean to imply that I don't believe in Ty. I just mean that I think Shamet gets "it". He came in knowing how to lead a team, and was way ahead of any of the freshmen. We know they've all developed since then, but IMO, Shamet will be the best option at whichever position 3.3G decides to play him at, including point guard.

Early Fred reminds me more of Frankamp. He was reserved, took care of the ball and played within himself. None of that describes Ty to me. Not saying he can't improve but Landry and Frankamp are both better PGs than him from what I've seen.

No way TT starts at point. He lacks the mental / natural instincts to QB a team with so many
other good options offensively and we will have them again next year. Unless Smith turns out
to be something dynamic it's going to be LS and CF in the back court with TT and others fighting
for the role CF is filling this season but I suspect that will be Smith followed by JRS. Be happy to
see him prove me wrong but he will have to significantly improve his PG skills. Allen will play some
two guard next year........maybe quite a bit at the two AND three.

I've felt WAY more comfortable with TT's game the last couple games he's gotten time. He hasn't tried to do too much. His shot is still way off, and he has a long way to go understanding how to direct the team. He will be a good depth guard his Junior and Senior year. Possibly even starting his senior year depending on what recruits come in. He's not going to be Fred, but he may still be good.

He's a chucker. It's tough to coach that out of players. It isn't always bad, but it doesn't really work well with Marshall's system.
