  • Mid-Season MVC Awards

Well we have reached the turn and probably a good time to discuss the Mid-Season conference awards.

    1st Team
    Ron Baker
    FVV
    Big Mo
    B. Scott
    A. Beane

    2nd Team
    D. Balentine
    S. Morris
    A. Purcell
    D. Brown
    W. Washpun

    FOY - M. McDuffie
    New Comer - M. McDuffie
DPOY - R. Baker (would make an argument for him being the best defensive guard in the country)
MVP - R. Baker (simply comes down to Ron and Fred and Ron has just been better overall and has been much more consistent)
COY - G. Marshall (but could easily see Hinson getting this award based on the way his team has exceeded expectations)

    Feel free to discuss.

I think Fred is our MVP in that he's more difficult to replace than Baker (however slightly that may be) but I agree statistically Baker will probably get it. It would be great to see them both win that award in their careers.

Is there a most improved player? If so, Shaq? I'm just thinking in terms of our own players because I can't really speculate on the other MVC rosters.

Maybe a co-MVP so they can both get a trophy?

I think it's pretty clear Ron is having a better year, especially in conference, than Fred. Not knocking Fred, at ALL. Ron has been spectacular on defense. I would agree however Fred is more valuable.

If Baker keeps it up, I would like to see him win the POY just because it seems right. Fred has one, Ron has one. But I won't ***** if Fred wins it again.

I just don't want Egidius Mockskevisouisnessess to win IF they finish like 3+ games behind WSU and get swept. I can live with a Tuttle-esque situation, but at some point, the entire league MUST come to grips with the fact that our players are, for the most part, better than everyone elses.

There is NO way the valley would allow all the individual awards to go to the same team. They treat it like middle school basketball (and play like it too). Everyone gets an award.

Ron is playing very well on defense during conference. He has usually been tasked with helping shut down the other team's best player and he's done an excellent job.

In quantifiable statistics, Fred and Ron are having pretty comparable conference seasons, though. Ron is averaging .5 points more per game. Fred has been the better 3 point shooter and the better free throw shooter. Ron has 7 more rebounds throughout the conference, but offensive rebounds for both are obviously not a strength. Fred has twice as many assists and two more steals. Fred has three more turnovers, which makes sense as the facilitator. Ron has had a couple as point guard where he has thrown the ball cross court for an easy interception.

Ron is obviously an absolutely excellent basketball player, but we've seen what this team looked like without Fred. I think Fred is clearly the most valuable player to this team, and I don't think the statistics are strong enough to say you have to give it to Ron.

Every award should go to WSU. I'm pretty sure WSUs tournament dollars are paying for all the awards anyway.

Coaches will vote for the player that gives them the most nightmares. My guess is FVV.

As much as I like Fred, this far this has not been at his best. Ron has been great in all areas. I realistically don't even think this is even that close. For some reason though Ron does not get that much respect, not even from his own fan base. He is not Robin to Fred's Barman. He also is a a superstar.

Very true they are more like Batman and Superman. Poor Evan has to be Aquaman in the Justice League.
