Think I'm with you, wsushox. No question Landry is an outstanding talent. But Baker, who is bigger and stronger (if not necessarily more athletic, which is a tribute to Landry and not a criticism of Baker), and who plays superior defense and has a basketball IQ almost up there in LeFred territory, has been here for his full five years. And up the road in the land of the Chickenhawk, Perry Ellis, who in high school was talked about as a guy just passing through on his way to the NBA draft, is completing his full career too.

Being able to leave early isn't that easy to do. I wouldn't be confident in early departure for either Shamet or McDuffie. Not for lack of talent, but because the numbers are so hard to beat to do so. Meanwhile, as much as I hope Grady gets his legs back under him soon, vintage Greggball seems to be returning even ahead of him -- which means that if Anton can indeed regain his form (and LeFred can stay healthy, of course), March Madness might possibly last into April for the Shocks this year after all.

I shudder at the thought of ever having a coach who thinks like some of our fine posters.

It will be interesting to see where Anton fits into the scheme of things. With the 3-headed monster starting to come together, will he play the 4 which seems more his natural postion?

IMO, Grady is more of a 4 than a 5 but can do both. Let's hope that soon he is totally healthy and back playing for us.

Once we get everybody healthy and playing, 3G will have a important task of sorting out the most effective combinations to make this a Season to remember. This will be a problem that many Coaches just wish they had.

Last but not least, it is nice to see how the Shockers are prepped on the defensive end to the point that 1,2, or even 3 of our foes best players are held to a mild roar. We have defensive stoppers, 3 headed monsta's, and players playing angry like their hair is on fire. Look for this trend to continue.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I like Grady at the 4, but he tends to clog the middle a bit playing next to our more traditional centers.

I'm also not sure Grady had the speed top keep up with more perimeter oriented 4 men. Granted that would be on a case by case basis depending on matchup.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Grady is our 5 every day of the week. With FVV feeding leading passes to him, and his ability to finish, we will see a whole new Grady than we have seen so far. Please, please, please let him be healthy enough to return at 100%!

Agreed. And there's that whole thing about him dissapearing against more athletic competition, which we were told had happened prior, and which he showed signs of before his unfortunate injury.

I want him back, but more as a 4 and less as a 5.

                    • I think Anton will play some 4 and some 5, depending on matchups. Sometimes he may not match up well defensively against a more athletic 4. He may at other times be undersized against a big 5 and not be able to make up for it. On the other side of that coin, a lot of those same guys won't be able defend him very efficiently. I'm not sure what he will play the most of, depending what 3.3G determines is his best use, but if and when he is healthy enough to play at 100%, he will make us an even better team.

His entire Shocker practice time, except 3 weeks, was with Fred directing things. He got thrown into the better competition without Fred. You can't produce much without the ball, and if Baker wasn't three-teamed, Tyrone was dribbling. Let's see how Grady does with Fred, Ron, Connor and/or Wessel, McDuffie and Shamet feeding him the ball.

You agree with the post saying he's not athletic enough to keep up with perimeter oriented 4's and argue that he disappears against athletic competition, but you want him back as a 4 and not a 5? Why would that be? The speed and athleticism issues you believe exist would be less of an issue as a 5.

                          • When Anton comes back one of the three headed monster will be displaced from the 10 man rotation. My bet would be Rauno. If Shamet returns this year, Rashard is likely out (Zach or Markis plays some 4 along with Anton while Ron or Landry get additional minutes at the 3).

I'm thinking when these guys return it just means more rest for Fred and Ron.
