  • Observations from the 5th row

Guys played hard, the whole way. Unsolicited musings...

The lack of an AA PG was a 15 point difference, minimum.
MM is a *****. Athletic talent like this hasn't been on The Koch Arena floor in a long time. It's there people, just be patient.
HCGM was so pissed at SM, I thought the jugular on the side of his neck was going to blow like a water main on a cold January day. I was worried about his health.
USC has a bunch of mouthy punks. Enfield has little control over his juvenile delinquents.
Tough to watch FVV watch it trickle away in the closing seconds. He was dying a 1000 deaths on the bench.
Xavier would have popped this group without aforementioned FVV. No chance.
Bush played hard and did all that he can do. With Shaquille AWOL, there are no other options - now. That will change.
Ron is Ron. Just a joy to watch him every second on the floor.
TT is talented, just needs to be reeled in.
Grady is a serviceable paint player. But does not have the lateral mobility to be a major impact.

It's November people. It's a long, long season.

    That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Just in general, too much panic around here. We have guys who aren't even Negative Nancys; they've transcended that and have moved on to being Nattering Nabobs of Negativism.
Why don't you read my entire post and then take your positive preach to someone else. Because I don't need to hear it.

There is also too many people trying to act like they are the calm few keeping their mind while everyone else is freaking out.

      • I'm not worried about this year. FVV will get back and we'll go on a tear. Our seed will take a bit of a beating, but oh well.

I'm starting to downgrade expectations for next season significantly, though.

I'm not ready to downplay expectations for next season yet. Lots of opportunity for guys to improve. If it's the Fred, Ron, and Anton show through MVC play, then I'm with you.

            • I see some people seem intent on dragging everyone else down into the dumps with them, while attacking anyone who shows any positivity. And yes, I know I've now made myself a target for that, and don't really care. This place is becoming insufferable recently.

I'm not Shockref, but getting Fred back will add at least 10 points to Grady and Kelly Once every player learns where to be to unclog the plays, entry passes and open driving lanes will be more prominent

                  • Interesting that USC was smack talking to us and Baker. If we had all of our team healthy playing in that game, we would have buried them. Even though they focused on Baker, he still had 25 points and 5 assists. Good thing for them our other All American could not play.

As for our inside game, I doubt this happens, but we could always throw Nurger back in the fray of battle.

                      • Just watched the game and scanned this thread. Everyone is talking if we had Fred, yest there is no doubt we win that game easily. I say if we had Landry the way he has played relative to our other guards we win the game easily even without Fred. There were positivies, mainly McDuffie and the overall effort. I also think Zach took some steps forward and Tyrone didn't look as bad as the stats indicated he will shoot the ball better, even our AA have had rough shooting games.

I think the post improvement is going to have to come with Kelly developing and getting Hamilton more minutes. Grady is what he is and will be helpful in the conference, but he will not be effective against athletic bigs like we saw yesterday. I wonder if Gregg and Rauno are reconsidering the redshirt based upon Shaq's disappearance and the need for help now. Bush will help and I saw improvement, but he will not be the difference by himself to get us where we need to be with our bigs.

Not sure if alarm is ever going off for Shaq. His mind is 1000 miles from here right now.
Development of the youth, particularly EH. Until then, it's a rotation of AG, RK & the Bush. Don't even bring up taking the shirt off RN, unless more injuries.

Unless you believe Rauno is going to make a night an day difference in this team I would not even considering changing his red shirt choice. Personally, while he could offer some good minutes, I don't think we would be that much better. Shaq is a space eater, that's it, he just takes up space. My patience with him is wearing thin.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.
