Official: Wichita State vs USC Game Thread

This was a game we needed to win and sure should of. USC hit more than their fair share of wide open 3's. Our inside game sure struggled today. With all that said, the Shockers can still get 2 wins at this Tourney. MM was a nice breath of fresh air today and Baker is playing his heart out. Not sure what is up with Shaq but his minutes will dwindle sooner than later if he does not get it together. Even with our injuries, The Shocks can still win 2 at this tourney which I have said twice because I believe it. Soon, we will have our full squad back and we will have other players getting extra minutes as so during our Final 4 Season. Still have not seen today's stats but will watch the game again later.

- T2 was better the first half than the second. Started making a ton of mistakes though.

- Grady was overwhelmed by double teaming hosses, which gave our guards opportunities but we just weren't hitting.

- Saw nice glimpses of our old defense, but USC can straight shoot the ball. If we keep playing defense like that, we will hang with nearly anybody night in and night out.

- BWAM really showed he can play at this level. Obviously he is not dominant, but could be a serviceable baller by year end.

- Poor Morris is just physically and tactically too slow for Division 1 ball, right now. Hopefully by his senior year it will click. That's such a disappointment.

- Baker was straight gassed with 3 to go. When I saw that, the game was over to me. He has to be able to rest and come back on the pitch for those closing minutes. JRS and/or T2 need to keep working to spell Baker without all the mistakes.

- Brown is showing glimpses of what he can do. More of that please.

- McDuffie is a stud. When he cuts out his freshman mistakes, oh boy!

- Hamilton is a beast. I cannot wait to see him mature tactically.

- Evan was much better today.

It was a fun game to watch, even though we didn't play anywhere near what we are used to seeing. The refs didn't call a bunch of ticky tack crap, so that was nice.

Our backup point guards went 2/13 and 1/7.

SC got a little lucky. Two of our best players were spectators. Some would say that three of our best players were spectators.

Given the circumstances and outcome, I am not ready to say the sky is falling.

Sheesh, did we lose by 3 to USC or by 20 to a DII? Bunch of negative Nancy's. We only have 4 upper class men. Don't forget that. There will be growing pains.

This is honestly more of a meltdown than I expected. We must be spoiled from the last two years.

I saw more good signs from many of the others than I had in just about every other game this season, exhibition included. For example, we held a team that scores over 90 points a game to 72, and I was very impressed with McDuffie. We just came up a little short. I don't know what to say about Shaq, though. He might need another wake up call, like last year.

What a crock of crap. Where in thee hell is Shaq Morris? Cut bait on that lazy unmotivated D2 player. Our ROI on him is less than zero. The only way we play in March Madness is by needing to win the MO Valley tourney. WTH did you play FVV the first two games? Today should have been his 1st day back! Now the Shox are relegated to being nationally irrelevant and having to exhaust their energy to climb out of the Grand Canyon they dug. I'm freakin pissed!!!! Later....I'm going to go eat some pumpkin pie.

Agreed...I don't care what anyone says...that boy has no play angry in him...just flashes here and there...can easily see him moving on after the season

I know that folks will bomb me, but Wessel played 29 minutes and went 1/5 and 0/4.

I would start Markis in his place in a heart beat. Markis went 5/9 and 2/3. Markis had 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 TO, and 2 PF.

In fairness, Evan had 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 0 TO, and 1 PF.

I agree.

I think Evan is more serviceable as an undersized 4 than as a 3. He is just not quick enough to play against more athletic players.

Your buddy was the one that jokingly hoped another Shockernetter would die. That's a lot more trollish than anything I've ever done. I'm not calling for him to be banned (heck I think Cold shouldn't have been), but ShockerFever gets away with far more than any other poster on this site (including Cold).
