The only way we play in March Madness is by needing to win the MO Valley tourney. WTH did you play FVV the first two games? Today should have been his 1st day back! Now the Shox are relegated to being nationally irrelevant and having to exhaust their energy to climb out of the Grand Canyon they dug. I'm freakin pissed!!!! As rough as this was, I feel better about this team now than I did before the game. I was hoping TT would play much better, would be ready to step up. He's not. I think he will be eventually, but for right now, if Ron is our starting point guard, JRS should be our back-up. McDuffie impressed me. BWam impressed me. ZBrown had some impressive spurts. Shaq appears to be trying to work himself out of the rotation. Rashard had some good moments. MM should be starting at the 3. I know he struggles defensively, but so does our starting 3. And at least McDuff can help on the offensive end. Loyalty may be a little too strong on this one. Grady...will do well in most Valley games, because of the opposition, but unless he improves, he will not be effective against taller, athletic bigs. He wasn't good today, and his shot isn't going, his rebounding and passing also suffer, which can't happen.

Going to be a long, long period while Fred recovers. We aren't good right now. We aren't on Tulsa's level, we aren't on USC's level. And they aren't at a top 25 level. We are sloppy and can't shoot, and even with a great game from McDuffie we still relied way too heavily on Baker. We deserved this game, we deserved the Tulsa game, and we just got to hope that we don't lose our tournament bid because we played our real season without half our functional roster. Still very confident once we get Fred and Conner, but will it be too late? We've lost the potential for three solid wins in Orlando already by losing to USC and we already lost to Tulsa. Gonna have a terrible RPI.

Sucks that the real season is the OOC, and we'll get Fred for useless minutes in the MVC against 200 RPI opponents.

Grady had a very quiet 7 boards and 8 points, there were times when we needed him and he was invisible.

USC scored 83,101,90 and 96 in their first 4 games. We held them to 72 in spite of their 3 point shooting. They had 20+ turnovers. I saw a lot of defensive mistakes, unacceptable mistakes, yet we must have done some things right.

These have been Debbie Downer games. Arguably we should have been beaten significantly worse by both Tulsa and USC. We got 9 miracle points of Fred's dying ankle against Tulsa, and USC committed a ridiculous number of TOs to keep us in the game. We looked awful, and neither Tulsa nor USC looked good. We've shot INCREDIBLY badly, to the point that I expect improvement just by regressing to the mean.

I'm still highly confident in our roster by March, but I am growing increasing afraid that we'll waste it by losing too many games in the OOC; what we are doing right now isn't working. At this point our RPI might still be somewhat salvagable, but if we come into the tournament with 6, 7, 8 losses we'll be fighting for a 9 seed; that is just the way it works. Last year we were 28-4 and got a 7 seed. In similar situations we got a 9 seed with 8 losses in our Final Four year.

This was one of the most aggravating Thanksgivings ever. USC is not good. They'll finish 9th or 10th in the PAC 12. Our perimeter defense continues to suck. Another wide open shootaround for the opposing team. Just horrible, horrible defense. That, even without FVV, is unforgivable.

Our offense is ragged and lost, as to be expected. Just a lot of bad shots and horrible empty possessions. We just have no flow on offense. Again, with as many minutes as the youngins are getting, I can understand it. Baker just has to force everything now. Nothing ever is easy coming to him and he still nearly willed the team to victory. McDuffie continues to impress me on the offensive end. He has no handles but he's a stud. We just saw a sample. His defense lets a lot to be desired though.

When you have JRS and Ty Taylor getting significant minutes in the backcourt, it's just gonna be really hard to win meaningful basketball games. At full strength and with a little bit of outside D, we beat USC by 20.

Grady looked soft as hell today. Forced some bad shots also. Of course he wasn't getting many touches like he should have been so he was probably frustrated.

The amount of careless turnovers was the most frustrating aspect of all. Just totally not something we're used to seeing for the last 5 years.

Boatright will go 1 for 13 tomorrow. Watch.

We would've gotten drilled by Xavier so maybe we can get a confidence booster against Bama. They, like USC, are also not good.

It was a fun 42 straight weeks in the rankings. Hopefully we see you again soon.

On balance I think there is a lot to like about this team. Freshmen playing like talented freshmen. Sophomores need to step up. Fred and Conner will make a big difference.
