Remember that according to the SI article about Fred, he may have had a concussion for the last 16 minutes against Kentucky two years ago -- I believe he said in the article (after the fact, obviously) that he thought he probably did -- but he didn't want to be checked out for it because he didn't want an injury to him to be the story of the game.

Sometimes Fred may be just a little too tough for his own good. Let's hope that he keeps in mind with this injury that it's the whole team's season at risk if he ends up being hobbled by an attempt to return too soon.

Wichita State's Fred VanVleet (hamstring) will "probably give it a go" Saturday against Saint Louis, Gregg Marshall told @CBSSports.

Agreed, Suit him up, but don't put him in unless it looks like we are really struggling. Like 15+ points down struggling.

I dunno, down 15 is pretty hard to come back from, unless you're saying in the first half. I would say put him in if we're struggling and the game has been close the whole time (like down and up by 5ish points).

It would be incredibly discouraging if we get down by 15 even if Fred isn't playing. St. Louis is a game we SHOULD win without Fred.

15 was an arbitrary number just to say that we are REALLY struggling. 15 down early is easier than 10 down late. My point was to give it time and not just throw him in the first time that we have a turnover, or get down 4. Marshall is quick to sub in sometimes (not bashing or saying its the wrong move, just an observation), and I know he wants Fred back.

3G and FVV also made the decision he was ready for Charleston Southern, and Tulsa. He wasn't ready for either. Better Safe than Sorry at this point. If the DOCTORS say hes good to go, then I'm ok with it. Though I agree, we shouldn't need him for St Louis.

Meh... don't like the phraseology there. Either he is GTG, or he is not GTG. "Probably give it a go" is gray area.

Same thing was said before the Tulsa game.

We got greedy and it backfired. Let's not get greedy again.

                            • No one on here knows the whole situation, only Fred, Gregg and the doctor have that information. Neither have made many mistakes over their many years at WSU. I don't think they'll make the same mistake twice. They've certainly earned my trust.

                              • I don't understand the only play him if we are losing or are in a tough game argument. That suggests we let him get cold on the bench and put him in. That is the most ineffective situation for him, in my opinion. It is also the situation that has the highest re-injury risk. I would rather he plays planned minutes at planned intervals or not at all.
