Please don't aggravate the hammy sidelining him for a run in the MVC Tourney for the auto bid. We could go into that tourney with a 14 and 14 record for all I care. As long as win it with a healthy FVV...Play Angry gets real NASTY in the NCAA Tournament!!!
How did you come up with the date in mid-January? Why not mid-February? I don't have a problem with doctors and trainers being cautious, but we don't even know anything about the data they are dealing with. Data is how one should make a decision, not just a date. Caution is fine but data should still be the criteria. Marshall has already said that he doesn't want him until he's ready. I hope that is still the criteria. But whoever said there is no 100% chance would still be correct.

What I can tell you, Jon, is my experience with hamstring pulls (tears) of all sizes and with athletes of varied sports with large bulky hamstrings and small thin ones. Everyday I see hamstring pulls and all my patients (andmost are runners) are back to sport within a few short weeks.

Do I have some sort of magic? Sort of, yes! PRP!!!

As I've talked about this before: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is amazing. I've seen hamstrings COMPLETELY heal, even if a large tear in a bulky muscle, very quickly (meaning 2 weeks or less). These treatments are a "magic bullet" in that they promote rapid healing. Not "magic" in that we know how they work. The platelets bring in your body's own stem cells that promote rapid healing.

So Jon, find a doctor near you with experience doing PRP treatments and you will rapidly be back to sport. But don't forget stretching and strengthen to prevent further tears after the healing process. Although not covered yet by insurance, it is well worth the time you save being out of your sport.

Let us know how you are doing. We all wish you a rapid recovery.

He won't be, but the addition CF will hopefully be a much better backup and stopgap than where we sit today.

              • Thinking outside the box, what about bringing Fred in off the bench for a few minutes in his first game back or two so as to not overstress the hamstring?

I don't think the number of minutes will be the problem. Its how hard that Fred goes. He could be in 1 minute and drive hard and tweak his hamstring again if its not ready. He could be in 30 minutes and be fine if he is going 50%. The reason you have to leave him out until he is ready is that Fred is going to give 110% no matter what his body is telling him.

                  • If Fred isn't even at full practice speed, there is just little chance he'll play in St Louis. I'll be really surprised if he even suits up.

I agree with this, but also with having Fred on the bench. If he's given the green light to play, and the docs say he's 100%, I'd sit him on the bench anyway. Let JRS or TT start at the 1 (probably JRS unless TT has been showing something in practice). Let Ron start at the 2. IF it looks like we need FVV to settle things down or get things going (AND HE'S 100%), then bring him in. Otherwise, give him another five days to get back into shape.

                        • Is there a way to measure if a ham is 100% other than playing to see how it reacts?

You can shoot him in the nuts with a rubber band gun from 50 ft and see if you remain conscious or not.
