That's a mostly well-reasoned list. Glad to see they avoided the temptation to put freshmen on the first-team. But Wayne Seldon on the 2nd team? Did they drag the wrong profile off the KU page? Ellis and Seldon are nowhere near each other, no matter how you sort the list.

Yeah I have no idea how Wayne Seldom got put on there. Maybe a lot of weight was placed on their games this summer. I think he did pretty well in that. For him to get on a list and for no one else on the team to get on one basically means no one from KU made it :)

I dunno about you guys, but I don't give a flying F about anyone else on that list or what school they went to. I care about Fred and Ron and that's amazing to have two preseason all americans that are Shockers who started here as Freshmen. Not transfers, not JUCO guys, Freshmen who started with the program and who will (and have already for Ron) graduate as Wichita State alumni. These guys are as important or more important than that first set of recruits that Marshall got here. Toure, David Kyles, Stutz, the guys who started it all and put WSU back on the map of competitive basketball. Ron & Fred will be remembered as Shocker Legends for the rest of time. Wherever Wichita State basketball is in 50 years, I'll be the 80 year old man telling all the kids about watching Ron drain 3 after 3 against Gonzaga and Fred sealing the deal with a 3 and wink at Coach. I'll remember and boast about watching them take us to a Final Four, an undefeated season, a sweet 16 run and what ever is in the future for this year. I can tell them that not only were those guys great players, but had great character to match, a great work ethic and they always played with an all-business look but smiled often.

What a time to be a Shocker fan.

Thanks Ron and Fred, you guys are phenomenal and deserve every award and accolade presented this year. Many successes in life will follow these guys, they are defined simply as WINNERS.

If DeCourcy is to be believed, college basketball is pretty guard-heavy these days. And he's definitely betting on the come with Selden, and to some extent with Paige too.

Hmmm. Is there another Ron Baker?

I don't think he means Ron doesn't try. There were a few times last season where teams were totally committed to taking him away as an option, and he would disappear for stretches. He's wanting to see Ron impact the game more even when teams try to limit him.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

And that's EXACTLY why I was laughing. It's surreal to me where our program is right now. A program I have supported on various levels for 35 years. A program where I am lucky enough to have a few people I can call friends. A program I am lucky enough to be able to follow, sometimes across the land. I'd cry tears of joy if I didn't laugh, so laughing seemed to be the right thing to do. We start not one but TWO flipping All Americans. And like @_kai_: said, they've been just as successful off the court as they've been on and they are (rightly) going to be remembered for all time as some of the greatest Shockers ever.

That was puzzling, too. Ron's stoic on-court expressions and body-language may lead one to believe the effort isn't there. That's the only explanation I can come up with to explain that statement.

I think @Steeleshocker:'s reply may be the better analysis.

Indeed. However, sometimes 'disappearing' in the corner with a double-team while the rest of your team plays 4-on-3 is a pretty viable contribution to a gameplan. Especially when one of those other 4 is FVV.

When I looked at that list, I was not surprised by the Baker and VanVleet selections, but I was by the Seldon selection. And just as you and _kai_ have expressed, how crazy is that? Damn, I need to stop and smell the accolades more while they are happening! As recently as five or six years ago (prior to Butler's back-to-back NC games) I would have never imagined this kind of sustained success was possible at a non-power conference school.

Agreed, i think this issue was mostly apparent during the mini shooting slump that FVV had.

But as a senior I would like to see Baker take that double team and shove it down their throat with a two handed jam.
