  • Predicting Best 20 Basketball Coaches in 2025

A decade from now, most of the great college basketball coaches of the past quarter-century will be retired. Bo Ryan has already announced this will be his final season...

    They missed a Sweet 16.

I would like to know Vegas' odds on Gregg not reaching 600 by 60. Unless he retires or goes to a doggie P5 job it's a lock.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Interesting list. Coach Marshall is ranked at #10. He has wins over #8, #7, #6, #4, #2, and #1, and lost to #5
by 2 points. This is referring to his wins as coach of the Shockers. I did not research his wins at Winthrop, so he may have even more!

Love the "if and when" he takes a "iconic job" comment.

3G$ is set for life here.

Oh, don't worry. He'll be elected to the HOF.

Very good point. He won just 28 games his first two years at WSU, which the writer acknowledges was a cleanup period, but since then he's had 176 in six seasons -- over 29 a year, and more than in those first two tough years combined.

So even with the first two years included he's averaging 25.5 at WSU, which would mean another 204 (and 602 total) in the next eight seasons, by which time he'll be 60. And if you just count his next seven seasons, leaving him at 59 years old, but step him up to his current pace of 29+ per year, you're again at 205 (and 603 total) in seven seasons. So he'd have to slow down to miss 600 by 60, and where's any sign of that?

Wonder how many National Championships we will have to win to completely lose the Mid-Major classification?

27 wins/season in the next 8 seasons would be 216 wins, which would put Gregg at 614. 600 by 60 seems doable.

Just one. Some perceived bigger league will come snag the Shockers. The Big East conference folks would be taking up a floor at the Marriott in east Wichita wooing Bardo and company. So just one national championship will suffice.

Big Least a major? Ok? I guess. I would take a NC within the Valley all day long over a BE membership. Just my opinion!

I don't think the Big East is a major conference at all. But I haven't heard the national media call that conference a "mid-major". So since Wichita St. doesn't have football we would not get an invite to a P-5 conference should we win a national championship in basketball. But you can bet conferences like the Big East or AAC would be calling. Hence why I think it would only take one national championship for the Shocks to never again be called mid-major as the university would be swooped up in a New York Minute.
