Just wild speculation, but since RH had been at WSU for 2 years, he still has work to do to be on pace to graduate on time. The fact he's going the JuCo route, tells me he doesn't have the credits to be a Junior."Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should accomplish with your ability."

I cannot comment on his hours and grades, but if he went to any D1 he would have to set another year and since he already redshirted here at WSU he would lose another year of court time eligibility. By going Juco he gets experience during this year and still has two years of eligibility for another program.
Edit Trop as always faster with more knowledge beat me to the punch

Going the Juco route makes total sense from Rian especially if he still has ambitions of playing at the D-1 level (which I am sure he does). Since he is going to burn a year of eligibility one way or the other he might as well go where he can display his skills for all to see at a slid Juco program. Hopefully, that will open up a number of different options for him to consider for his final 2 years of eligibility.
Good luck Ria'n wherever your journey takes you.

Many redshirt freshman go juco for that reason.
Many DII schools would also provide high quality classes that would further a degree and allow him to transfer to DI in a year."Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should accomplish with your ability."
