  • Fourth Consecutive 30 Win Season in 2015/2016

Shockers now have won 30 plus games in the last three seasons; will number four come in 2015/2016 season?

The following table represents the results of Shocker teams comprised solely of players recruited and coached by HC3G. My thinking is the most talented Shocker team recruited by HC3G will take the court next year which means number 4 is coming next season with hopefully a better finish in the Big Dance!

    WSU Tournament
    30-5 NCAA Final 16
    35-1 NCAA Final 32
    30-9 NCAA Final 4
    27-6 NCAA Final 32
    29-8 NIT Champion
    25-10 NIT Round 1
    176-39 81.9%

Does any program have more than 4 consecutive 30 win seasons? I know ku had 4. Long time away but it would be extra fun to take that away from them.

@WuDrWu: I believe our Shockers are it.

KU is the only team to have four consecutive 30-win seasons. Memphis did it too, but had to vacate some of those wins.

I heard another interesting tidbit the other day. Something like only 4 teams in the country have won at least 1 game in the Big Dance each of the last 3 years.

Since 1927 (when we played 41 games) the winningest seasons in Shocker history are:

            1. 35-1 Marshall
            2. 30-5 Marshall
            2. 30-9 Marshall
            4. 29-8 Marshall
            5. 27-4 Miller
            5. 27-6 Marshall
            5. 27-7 Smithson
            8. 26-9 Turgeon
            9. 25-3 Smithson
            9. 25-10 Marshall

This Marshall you speak of has been pretty successful.

We should try to keep him around as our coach.

I can remember a time when winning 20 games was considered a great season.

Before 2000, you only played 26 regular season games. Now 30 is the norm. With a weaker MVC, I'd say a 25 win season is equivalent to a 20 win season from 1950-2000.

                      20 of 26 is 76.9%

                      25 of 32 is 78.1%
                      25 of 33 is 75.8%

A physician called into a radio show and said:

23 of 30 is 76.7%. Being that the Valley is weaker now than it was from 1950-2000, I figure an extra win (or 2) is needed to make it equivalent.

18-20 regular season wins used to be enough to get in the tourney as an at-large from the Valley. I figure 24-26 now.

How deep would we have went in the NCAA tournament the year we won the NIT? What was our RPI before the NCAA tourney began?
