Whether it was a good call or not by John Moore, the official scorer screwed up the scoring and PJ was sitting on the bench with 4 fouls, when actually he only had 3 fouls.
Deliberate cheating or incompetence by the Drake official scorer?
Good thing the outcome of this game did not have any bearing on the MVC Championship.
From today's Eagle write up of the game:
WSU played some of the second half short-handed for no reason, adding another bit of frustration to a bad-luck season. Referees hit WSU senior P.J. Couisnard with a technical foul for slapping the backboard after a dunk with 8:42 to play. By rule, the foul is an indirect technical and does not count also as a personal foul. The Drake scorekeeper initially and incorrectly gave Couisnard two fouls on the play, raising his total to four.
"Erroneously," Marshall said. "All three officials claim they told the official scorer it was an indirect technical, thus no fourth foul. They put four up on the (score) board and we asked the official scorer and he said it was four fouls. Miscommunication, and unfortunately it didn't help us in any way."
Marshall pulled Couisnard. Drake statisticians quickly discovered the error and reduced Couisnard back to three fouls. Nobody told WSU coaches.

I agree with the other 3 or 4 guys, PJ's legs were swinging caddy cornered to the glass, and he put his hand there to stop the momentum which could have thrown him off with his legs up, landing on one of our players below possibly injuring one of our players and PJ too.
If I was the coach, I would file a complaint with Elgin, especially over the official scorer's error and failure to notify the Wichita Bench.

There are some major yellow colored glasses going on in this thread. A player who is holding on to the rim with both hands is not going to let go with one to "steady himself" using the glass. It was an absolutely legit call. The only reason (99+% of the time) that players hit this glass is to add some style points to the dunk.
If you want to debate whether the rule is valid, go right ahead. But the fact is, it is a rule, PJ knowingly broke the rule, and the proper call was made. End of story.
However, the official scorer not notifying the bench about the personal foul mistake was a bit shady.

Sour grapes or not, I'd like to see Schaus file a protest with Elgin.

I hate to bring this up again, but to prove my point that it dont get called in BCS games. I have watched 3 bcs games, where it didnt get called. 1 of them was hanging on the rim, and the other 2 was slapping the backboard. For those of you that watched the baylor/colorado game, you can clearly see he slapped on the backboard and hung on the rim at the end of the 1 st OT.Follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Shox_KCfan

Newshock, you beat me to it! That was as blatant as could be, and it simply does not get called on the 'big boys'. I watch a considerable amount of basketball, and I honestly can not remember ever seeing hanging on the rim get called in a game with BCS schools. I did see it in a Chicago Bulls game the other night, though.
