  • Best WSU football player

It's another blustery night in the northeast, and no Shocker game on to keep me warm. So I've been letting my mind wander and was considering who among our Shockers would have made the best football player... Baker and Wessel are continuously mentioned by commentators as being stud football players in high school, not sure if that is legit or just homer hyperbole. And was Cotton a football player too, or does he just have the body and mentality of a football player? Which of these guys would have made the biggest impact as a college football player?

    QB - Baker
    TE - Wessel
    O-line/D-line - Shaq
    Punter/kicker - Nurger
    Every other position - Cotton

Poor Nurger. Dang. I want that guy to do well.

                  Agree with Jumpy Gaithers.

At a practice a couple of months ago the subject of Tekele playing football was brought to Coach Marshalls attention. He thinks he might have a legit shot at the NFL but that it could take a couple of years. In addition Coach looked around the practice and stated he could field a pretty good football team with his guys and maybe a couple of others on the track and baseball teams. Might even be the 2nd best football team in the state.

Shaq would make a mean DE.

Cotton would be a mean Tailback, LB or Safety.

                      Safety. He would be nasty.

Kung Wu nailed it, not a question to take too seriously.
But... if I did take it seriously: Cotton would be a good safety, he has the athleticism and the instincts. Wessel was a pretty salty DB in HS, could have been a tall receiver in college football. We think of Baker as a QB but I've thought of him with 20 additional lbs as a linebacker. He has the build for it. Those long arms would come in handy as a MLB in a 2-deep zone.

As for Shaq. First, I love the guy and I'm happy he's starting to play well. But I think the reason he's a basketball player and not an offensive tackle is simply because of the things HCGM talks about that Shaq must improve upon. Playing through pain, pushing through fatigue. But it's our gain as you can see how nifty and light on his feet this kid is.

Using any player from the Marshall era . . .

                            Ramon Clemente at TE
                            Graham Hatch at FB
                            Demetric Williams at CB
