Coach Marshall played in a golf Nike golf tournament 6 years ago with coach Smith, Scotty Pippin and Tubby Smith... that was the foursome.

His comments were in reference to him getting invited to go on a Nike-sponsored golf trip during which he was paired with Dean Smith, Tubby Smith and Scottie Pippen about six years ago (his 2nd year at WSU). He said that he was playing with three legends and he was the leprechaun, as in, "who the heck am I to be playing with THESE guys."He went on to say that he was warned that Dean had started on his downward spiral and his memory was starting to go but when he met up with him and they started playing, he was amazed that not only did Dean know who he was, but he also knew about his days coaching Winthrop and what he did there. Every time I hear him on the radio (and it's often which is oh, so cool) or on TV, I am just so appreciative that he is our coach. Because that style has trickled down to his players (well, he does recruit a certain type of player) such as Fred and Ron who do such great interviews. Class act and class program.
