  • WSU at BRADLEY PREDICTIONS AND PREGAME DISCUSSIONS

Here's the deal. I predict the groundhog will emerge from its burrow tomorrow and see the shadow from the Valley of our beloved Shocks loss yesterday, and proclaim mostly sunny days for us through April. The Shocks live in the land of the free. Next destination will be the home of the Braves. If I recall, we had some off-games the Season we made it to the Final 4. Not long ago the Shocks won 3 games in solid fashion, then had two flat games and split them. Now it is time to face adversity that most all teams will encounter head on. Virginia finally lost their first game in a heart-breaker to Duke yesterday. Rarely does a team win them all as we did last Season before dancing. Therefore, today we can relax, watch the Superbowl maybe, knowing that our Shockers will come out swinging and will be prepared for the games before us, one at a time. Bradley is also coming off a loss to Indiana State 64-58. Even so, no Valley road game is a cake walk but The Shocks will be primed and ready for the task at hand. This is the game FVV gets 11 assists? Dunno but stay tuned because this feat will happen.

    Shocks 70

    Braves 59
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I think I am one of the few that sees RN's offensive skills. I am thinking towards March
and next season. SM, at best, will give us 20-25 minutes at center next year either
because of fouls or stamina. RN has size, wing span and skills. Who else are you going
to invest in at the center position? I think we should give him 20 minutes against Bradley
playing down low, catching feeds and attacking the basket. I think people would be
surprised at how well he would do. Play a little zone which I think he is better suited for.
If we DID do it I bet he would respond with ten points and at least five boards, gain some
confidence and be a better sub for us the remainder of the season. Forget about the
perimeter threes, post up and attack the basket. Need that to take the pressure off our
perimeter guys who are being over played.

Looks like Warren Jones, Bradley's top scorer, was arrested @ Big Al's last night. I've been to Big Al's and I think it would be a fine place to be arrested in.

Bradley basketball player Warren Jones has been arrested at a strip club on misdemeanor charges of obstruction of identification and criminal trespass.

The only two spots in Peoria worth visiting are the Paradise casino and Big Al's.

Nurger just needs to slow down a tad. He overruns his intended position and/or is out of balance when he arrives. Reminds me of playing squash, just get there and wait.

Which is why switching to a zone when he is in the game seems reasonable.

Just an aside. During the Drake game shoot around, Nurger caught my eye. He was set up on the right side and shooting 3 balls. His shots were so pure, it almost seemed like a gauzy dream. The ball hardly ever touched the rim. Just net, after net. I am sure it was an anomaly, but it was fun to watch.

Unfortunately, his ability to knock down the perimeter shots in practice/warm ups hasn't translated to game situations. He is 4-16 in games. OTOH Rashard Kelly who you would never mistake for a pure shooter is 4-7 from behind the arc in games. Unless your practice skills can translate to game situations then they are of little value. Hopefully, that will happen at some point for Rauno.

I am about the only one calling for more RN. He may be a pure outside shooter but
he is needed down low. We have outside shooters but DON'T have a strong low post
player offensively. Need him to fill that role more going forward. If we get a quality
low post player for next year maybe he can play more stretch four but if that does not
happen we are going to need his size and wing span around the basket on both ends.

Nurger needs to work on his lower body strength. He gets pushed off his spot too easily which is why his per minute rebounding numbers are lower than Van Vleet's.
