  • Thanks Doug!!!

"Wichita State is clearly the dominant program in our league. No one will argue that. But I do think what we've seen this year is they have been tested far more than they were a year ago," Elgin said. "I really believe that Wichita State is not going to go unblemished this year."

Far more tested??? I don't know what our avg. margin of victory was last year during the conference...but our avg. margin of victory this season in conference play thus far is almost 17 points per game yes??? Far more tested?????

Wait...he's right...we have been FAR more tested this year in conference play. If my math is correct...

Avg. Margin of Victory last year = 15.8
Avg. Margin of Victory THIS year = 16.7

    Yes...waaaaaaaay more tested. Wait.... ;)

Another reason to switch conference, we might get a commissioner that can do math.

Let's just hope he gets to drop it after win against the most difficult game left on the Valley schedule.

I don't get it. Do people not expect us to ever lose again in the Valley? Do they think we're gonna go 123-0 or something? When we are constantly getting teams' best shots, and simply adding in the law of averages, of course we're gonna lose eventually. Do people really expect us to be undefeated every year now?

He said "I really believe that Wichita State is NOT going to go unblemished this year." Meaning he thinks Wichita St. WILL LOSE a game(s) in the conference this year.

That's all fine and dandy as many fans including myself think (like you said the law of averages) undoubtedly at some point will cause us to lose a game(s) within the conference. I just got a chuckle how he said we've been "TESTED FAR MORE" this season when the reality of it is that we are actually winning Valley games by a shade over a point more per game on average than last year.

The numbers for the first nine conference games. The only argument is this year we have had one more home game and one less on the road:

                2014-'15 MOV
                Loyola 11
                Drake 34
                At Missouri St. 23
                At Evansville 20
                Southern Illinois 12
                At Loyola Chicago 14
                Bradley 20
                Illinois St. 8
                At Drake 8
                Total 150
                2013-'14
                Missouri State 23
                at Bradley 20
                Drake 29
                at Loyola (Ill.) 14
                at Evansville 16
                Southern Illinois 11
                at Northern Iowa 9
                at Indiana State 7
                Evansville 14
                Total 143

I've never been a fan of Elgin. In this case he's just doing his job, making a case for the Valley being a better overall conference than it was last year (with a bit of hyperbole for sure). Which it is!

Right, and we have to keep in mind who we have yet to play. I think UE is our best win in conference, we still have many tests ahead, including today.

In that same article http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-.../date/01-31-15 it states the following:

The 18th-ranked Panthers (19-2, 8-1 MVC) host No. 12 Wichita State (19-2, 9-0) on Saturday in one of the most high-profile games in league history. It's the first Valley game between ranked opponents since 1982 and the biggest threat yet to Wichita State's 27-game, regular-season winning streak in the conference.

                      Is that correct???

The real problem here is the person who is in charge of officiating declaring that a team is going to lose. By doing so, even if that isn't the intent, you raise legitimate questions about your impartiality, especially if WSU loses a game on an iffy call.
