I realize I'm in the minority, but I just don't see all the love. Graham Hatch he is not. Now before you all get angry, I sure wouldn't mind having Evan getting my back in a dark alley.
You're pretty much right. Evan isn't giving us the offense Id like to see from a starter but he's playing well enough that he is still starting at this point. I like him a lot though. He's as fun to watch as a lot of the other guys at times. He does enough right to keep us winning but man if he would start going off every now and then from three we would be experiencing some more comfortable blowouts.

I dont mind Evan starting, he's not a pure shooter by no means, but his toughness and hustle, and he is basketball smart, he doesnt make too many mental mistakes. But I do think as things play out down the road we will see more Darius and Shaq at the same time along with Kelly for the size, especially come tournement time. I also see Brown, Glass as maybe bringing us scoring off the bench. Glass is improving, he's a scorer and could be that X-factor, much like Wiggins was last year.

If you have 4 other guys starting and a couple others off the bench perfectly capable of scoring enough points for us to win...but need that "MTXE" extra sumthing guy on the court come March who has a 71-2 career record....I'll pick a stud like Evan every day on my team.

KC, in negativity, you have no equal. This is a dumb thread to the extent that people feel the need to defend Evan. All one has to do is watch a game to see that he is the heart and soul of the tenacity and determination that differentiates us as a team. Every game he gets many loose balls and key rebounds, steals or deflections that provide the extra possessions FOR THE OFFENSE. Ball getting he does as well as anyone on the team.

Evan will start all year thank god and next year. See you caused me to do what I don't like, state the obvious. Sorry you "don't get all the love" for Evan. You really don't get a lot period. Now that you are back, turn over a new leaf.

The reason Evan doesn't get many points is because he doesn't shoot enough. There are only about 3 ways Evan scores in a game, either by making a 3, making a layup off a rebound or pass, or by making a free throw.

I'd like to see Evan shoot more 3's, especially when he's wide open. I saw two open 3's in the first half of Wednesday's game that he turned down and they were in the flow of the game. I'd also like to see him take some mid-range jumpers. There was one play in the game where he got the rebound and instead of going back up, he dribbled the ball back out. It would have been like a 10 footer. He's 6'5" against a smaller Loyola team and should have shot it.

So you're saying Malcolm ARMSTUD is better than Fred, then? That's what I'm hearing here.
Turn meter to on and re-read KC Shox post on Evan's liability. I'm here all week!!!

It was on. I was having fun too actually. There was a time when people were debating malcolm and fred not long ago. Then there was the fred/NBA discussions. I was just reminiscing

Evan is so tough I have a master-plan to prove it after he graduates. The valiant feat goes something like this. I would rent and wear a genuine Evel Knievel white cape, and slip-on a "play angry" Shocker cap and march into the meanest biker bar I can find with this all on to perform a daredevil stunt. I would start flirting with the dames, pointing to my Shocker hat telling them that I am not satisfied, while glaring at the men that are with them with an evil eye, while also being clamorous and loquacious. I would point to my hat and ask if anybody would like to try and knock it off my head. Once I get surrounded, in will walk Wessel. (Sure hope he shows up in time--tsk, tsk, tsk). As the crowd separates for him to join me in the fray, I will yell out as I am high-stepping to the nearest exit like Creighton fans when they are losing at home to us, 'ya''ll are on your own because Wessel is and was with me.' When the dust clears, Wessel is so tough he will follow slowly behind me unscathed, smiling from ear to ear, because he can.

You know I am not as swift as I used to be so I better elect our own martial arts SN rock star 'Kung Wu' to take my place while I watch this live as it evolves on tape from far far away.. Bahahahaa!!!!!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

                    • Found a thread on page 6 that deserves to be on page 1 today. First of all, UNI wanted him to shoot the rock. That strategy backfired because Wessel is tough. Next, Wessel scored in double figures, hustled for loose balls and seized them like always, and was handed a tough defensive assignment on Tuttle who scored 29 on us in Cedar Falls and helped slow him down to a mild roar. Yes, Wessel is tough as nails and I am happy as a lark that he is a Shocker!!!!

Yes and he did so on both sides of the court.

                          • The Eagle has a good article about Evan: http://www.kansas.com/sports/college...e11654024.html

Not from the article, but I looked at the numbers and on the season Evan is now shooting .396 from the field and .342 from 3 while averaging 4.4 ppg. That .342 3 point percentage gets him into a range that defenses will have a harder time ignoring him.

More importantly, however, is the fact that over the last 5 games he is shooting .485 from the field and .400 from 3 while averaging 9.4 ppg. If Evan is scoring nearly 10 ppg while shooting close to 50% from the field and 40% from 3 he becomes an actively difficult match up for a lot of teams who have to pull a big away from the basket to defend that.

Simply watching the guy on the replay of the game shows how much he hustles his ass off.
I really felt for the guy when he slipped guarding Tuttle. How can one not love his contributions to this team.

Just think if players were not synchronized by being where they are supposed to be most all of the time on offense and defense. Wessel may not be the most athletic or talented player out there, but nobody will out-hustle him and short of a slip that happens to everybody in the heat of battle, Wessel will be right where he is supposed to be doing the tough things like setting good picks, getting way more than his fair share of loose balls. Yesterday he helped slow down Tuttle which had to be done to win while also adding 11 points. Not a bad day at the hardwood office for Wessel who is junkyard dawg tuff. I had a guy tell me he thought Wessel was a better football player at Heights than even basketball and I know in their biggest win, he made key plays. This I do know. Mr. Wessel is used to winning and will do more than his part to contribute to that cause, no matter what sport he is playing.
