Since we have "nothing to gain" from playing them, I think we should continue ignoring them as if they don't exist and sit back and watch their enrollment numbers decline or flat line (this year they had a small 177 student increase).

At this point, I would love to shut KU out and just see KSU and WSU play a yearly game.

If WSU played K-State anywhere else and I didn't get to attend, I'd still be pretty psyched about going to work the next day and "chatting" with some of my coworkers who are K-State grads. (assuming WSU won)

I just don't understand the "meh" feeling. Playing K-State sounds more exciting than about 90% of the opponents that WSU has on the calendar this year.
It would probably break attendance records at The Octogon of Doom, which usually looks about half empty when I see them play on TV.

When this conversation comes up at the local sports bar (in Arizona) and people see me wearing my Wichita St. shirt(s)....I do get asked..."How come ku won't play the Shockers"? As my eyebrows go up about to answer the question the person blurts out..."Cause they're scared right?" And please understand...in the PHX area...there are appx. 3-4 million transplants from Everywhere, U.S.A. following their favorite schools from wherever they're from. So my point is...even nationally a lot of college basketball fans from EVERYWHERE USA know why ku won't play the Shockers.

It'a bit evident that ku is beginning to look slightly foolish and there well may be a time when they come asking Wichita St. to play a game. If Marshall is still coaching at Wichita at that time and we already have a Duke, Arizona, North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky on our out-of-conference schedule...I could TOTALLY see him giving them the finger. And AZ Shocker would freakin' LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I was addressing a logistics question with a question of my own. I do think that I know the answer to it, though. In the one year that KU football wasn't bad and they made it to the Orange bowl, they worked it out to play Mizzou at Arrowhead for a neutral site instead of in Lawrence as it was scheduled that year. I see no reason why it would be impossible to do the same in basketball.

Like you (and I) said, it is certainly not something that a reasonable program would agree to voluntarily. [which... I guess says something about the sanity of KU that they agreed to give up their home football game]
KU/MU at Arrowhead wasn't a one off game in 2007-08 as you imply, it was played every there every year from 2006 until MU left the conference after the 2011 season. Both teams gave up their home games in the same way that UT/OU do in the Red River Game in Dallas, UF/UGA do in Jacksonville at the Cocktail Party, etc. And as compensation the Chiefs paid each school several million dollars.

There is no way that either KU or KSU could compete in a non-conference round robin as you envision it. The Big 12 doesn't allow its conference members to play each other in non-conference games (KU and UT explored this when they were only playing one game per year). KU will continue to schedule in a way that they feel is most beneficial to them (Marquee games, true road games for recruiting/as a favor, home buy games, home game in KC), WSU will do the same (home and homes, home buy games, no away buy games). If their interests ever line up they'll play. Until then there's no point in discussing it.

I'm flattered that I'm the subject of one of your 11 posts over nearly nine years.

I didn't mean to imply it was a one off game. The scenario mentioned above would also not be a one off game as it would happen every year.

Your second paragraph is interesting and is exactly what I was asking about. I assume that alone would prevent KU and Kstate from playing each other a 3rd time. It seems like it would also mess with the logistics of any type of neutral court tournament involving all three teams. I get that "no sane" program would ever give up a home conference game. I was trying to get to the root of the issue which is the logistics of this type of event: Given enough support and money for a non-conference tournament/legislative requirements etc, could it even exist?

Edit: I looked through your posting history and see you have only ever posted about KU. If I had known this when I originally posted, I would not have been so cordial. I feel as if I've been had.

So if someone posts very sparingly, stays on topic, and is always polite, that's still not enough for you?

                          Don't be a jerk.

Very possible. It is hard to separate those who would make that statement seriously with those who would make it as a joke. There are quite a few of each type on this board.
