-Whitehead is a talented player but acted like a freshman moron. He'll fit perfectly in the League.
-FVV is not an All-American, at least at this point anyways. He's trying to do too much and trying to score too much. Last year he just took what was given to -him and made opponents play with his outstanding passing and running of the show. This year the offense seems to be more ragged, he forces up a lot of junk against taller front courts and doesn't look to pass in fast break situations. Again, I love Fred. Hopefully things start settling down for him because I miss the Fred of last year.
-Baker is a stud. Nuff said.
-Cotton is also a stud. Nuff said.
-Carter really has that mid-range baseline jumper down. That is a huge asset to have. His throwdown was legit.
-I'm really ashamed of our student section. More unused seats at the top of the arena - an arena that is announced as sold out and an arena where people who are being turned away would gladly be paying money to use those empty seats. Something's gotta change. NOW.
6:00 weeknight games might be a tad early to pull off around here. The atmosphere sucked by tip off as only about half the arena was full. That quickly filled up, but it was definitely a weird feel at the end of pregame festivities.
-Ok, I think we've had our fill of those totally awesome and original paper 3's distributed to everybody yet again. I think it's lame. I've noticed now with the last 2 games that we've had those, that whenever we drill a 3 pointer, everybody is rushing to grab their paper 3 signs and wave them in the air instead of clapping and yelling after the make. The atmosphere actually gets subdued because of these things during 3 pointer makes. Time to retire those outdated gimmicks for a while. Like forever.Originally posted by Jamar Howard 4 President View PostWho are you and why are you making so much sense? :eagerness:
Our studs are indeed studs, although I agree that FVV is clearly not an AA. Student section is not up to par with a top notch program.
As for 6:00 being too early to pull off "around here", I think everyone has that problem. I've seen KU start at 6:00 with plenty of empty seats. I've seen the same happen to the LA Lakers on the west coast and the NY Knicks back east. It is just the nature of the timeslot relative to work schedules.

I remember asking her to please not give him any more face time.

I think there is a lot of crazy talk going on with Fred. The Seton Hall guards busted their asses trying to disrupt him last night and he ended up with 18 points, 8 assists and only 3 turnovers. For most guys 8/3 is great but I bet Fred would like to have the TO's back. He also shot 2-3 from behind the arc with both threes created in the flow of the offense, assisted by another shocker.
Cle > Evan Wessell? You don't say. One of the things Cle did so well was draw fouls and get to the stripe. I love shocker free throws. So you can imagine why my favorite Fred stat was 8-8 from the line. He got there eight times by being aggressive off the bounce and playing through contact at the rim. Once he was at the stripe he made them count.
Has he been perfect? Probably not but show me someone who is. I'm glad his jersey says "Wichita State" on the front and not something else.
6-1 and still plenty of room to improve. I think maybe the undefeated season has us a little spoiled. Maybe not.

The Pirates showed up at the Charles Koch Arena fully expecting to take their first good punch. They staggered early, and crashed to the mat 77-68 at #11 Wichita State. Seton Hall played well in the opening minutes, riding a...
Wichita State is excellent, and nearly unbeatable at home. The Shockers offense runs as smoothly as any Seton Hall will see in the Big East.

Reporter: Ron, tell me about how you've prepared for this season and what it is that has taken your game to the next level:
Ron Baker: Well, I spent countless hours in the gym working on my shot, attended several high level NBA caliber camps, worked with Fred all summer on ball handling techniques, but there was still one thing missing.
Reporter: oh really, what was that.
Ron Baker: Well, there's a dude that sits in the front row of every home game. Even with all that hard work, I don't think I can play a good game without getting a lucky fist bump. If I didn't get that fist bump, I don't know what I would do.

No one is talking **** on Fred, no one is saying he sucks, no one is saying they're not glad Wichita State is on his jersey. We do have the right to talk about how he's not been as effective as last year. It is a very valid observation. And if you think I'm somehow just spewing nonsense, here are facts.
FG% this year = .395
FG% last year = .484
3P% this year = .259
3P% last year = .418
FT% this year = .743
FT% last year = .830
REB this year = 3.4
REB last year = 3.9
AST this year = 5.0
AST last year = 5.4
TO this year = 1.4
TO last year = 1.3
STL this year = 2.6
STL last year = 1.9
PTS this year = 13.3
PTS last year = 11.6

Through first 7 games of last year here are his stats.

Thought the Shocks looked good, especially the starting 5. Not too good the first five minutes, but from Ron's dunk afterwards it was a different game. Not too worried about the ball sharing on fast breaks - if you watch Ron on one of his in the 2nd half he's pretty much looking at the defensive player the whole time to see what he's going to do and react based on it. Wish Tekele would have gone for a dunk on his one in the 2nd half rather than a reverse layup that got blocked. Free throws though got me a little worried - hopefully they turn that part around.
Have a feeling most of the conference games are going to be like these last two wins. Either a blowout like St. Louis, or a game like last night where a shooter has his night and keeps things relatively close. Hopefully the blowout games will give the new guys plenty of more playing time and get them ready for tournament time. Great to have veterans on hand to win games while the new guys get better. Great to have a holiday tournament for the team as well - gives them time for some serious team bonding. I have a feeling the team will be even better after it.
