I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Many memorable moments in the Battle of NO. My favorite is when AC stuffed both the ball and Johnny Crawford through the hoop.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Original post self-deleted -- poor taste. Glad to see the thread, though; lots of good memories.

        Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I literally destroyed the VHS tape of this game playing, pausing and then rewinding that dunk approximately one hundred and fifty seven thousand times. To this day Crawford wakes up in the middle of the night sweating and shaking.

If I recall correctly, in the Iowa win above, they called a timeout which they did not have coming and got a T which really helped us. Wasn't Scott Thompson one of their assistants responsible for keeping track

of such details? It was so loud at 21st and Hillside, maybe our foes couldn't hear themselves think?

When the Bookends and X-Man would dunk back in that era, it would bring chills up and down our spine. Poetry in motion!!! Men among boys!!! MTXE!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I'll never forget when Randy Smithson hit that free throw in the Iowa game and then fell backwards on his butt. Pure elation. The crowd was so loud that day - they practically willed the Shockers to victory.

Really helped us? lol A little understatement from our resident poet @forevershockerfan: :) The game was tied in the last minute when they tried to call that last TO. It was kind of a turning point.

Also, one of the reasons it was so loud in the arena that day was because they completely ignored the capacity limit of 10666. We estimated that close to 11000 and maybe a little bit more actual butts in the seat attended that game. There were people in the aisles, almost every aisle from row 20 on up. You could barely move around.

Doc, we may just have to raise the roof after all some fine day. Even the years thereafter when there would be only 7-8 thousand Shocker fans

at 21st and Hillside, it was amazing just how loud Shocker Nation was. To this day, big Programs still avoid our friendly invites here.

What part of the game was the dunk?

See Battle of New Orleans Highlights. About 4:04 into the 5 minute clip.

Too bad we couldn't get ESPN for this game so we could show all this off.
