  • Emerson Biggins on the West Side...

So, my buddy (i'll call him Doug) just told me he went there to watch the Shocker game on Friday and had an interesting experience. After the buses had left from the bar to the WSU game the place immediately filled back up with WSU fans looking to watch the game. It was about 7:30 and they had the KU game on, which wasn't a big deal because everyone assumed at 8pm they would switch the majority of the TVs to the Shockers. At 8pm they turned a couple of small TVs onto the WSU game and kept the rest on KU. My buddy asked his waiter WTF was going on and the waiter tells him that if he goes to the bar they will lie to him and tell him they can't change the TVs. So naturally, he goes up the bar and they tell him they can't change the TVs. He calls BS and the woman at the bar gets all pissed and frazzled and tells him to take it up with the KU fans and that she can't help him. So he ask "where the hell are they and I will talk to them!!?!?" and she points to a table with 5 KU fans at it. He tells her "you're F-en kidding me right?" At this point another guy working at the bar chimes in that they can't change it and to move on. So, naturally Doug goes back to his waiter and tells him to change the TVs to the WSU game. Guess what happens? Yup, the majority of the TVs go to the WSU game and everyone in the bar cheers. He even talked to the KU fans and they were not pissed because they understand the situation and said if they were in a bar in Lawrence they would expect the majority of TVs to be on the Jayhawks. But unfortunately, that is not where it ends. After about 3 minutes on the Shocker game the TVs revert back to the KU game. Doug asks his waiter what's up, and the waiter tells him that the manager told him to change the TVs back, and under no circumstances should he change them again, and then he left for the evening. Naturally, Doug and his other Shocker friends got up and left along with many others.

Was anyone else at Emerson Biggins for the game? Or has anyone else ever had a similar issue with them? I only ask because if this is all true and something they do, then I will boycott the **** out of them and tell everyone I know to not step foot in that place again. Including my fellow Shockernet posters. If it was a "KU Watch Party" then that is forgivable since it would be a planned event. If not, then this seems ridiculous. Maybe this isn't the place for this post, but I figured if you are a Shocker fan then you probably don't want to waist your time entering an unfriendly Shocker establishment to watch a game.

Had a slightly similar experience a couple months ago where a TV was "broken". Asked them to turn on a baseball game on one TV close to my table (TV wasn't even on), and I was told that it was "broken". Later on, a new game comes on all of the other TVs (I can't remember which game, but some college football game). Suddenly, the TV miraculously works again.

I'm not sure if it was my server just being lazy, or some decree from the manager, but they've lost my business. It helps that I live much closer to the downtown one than I do the one out west.

If you're looking for a place to watch the game, check out Mulligans out east. Watched most of last season out there. They always put WSU on before KU, and gladly switch the big screens over when they play at the same time. Plus the food, drinks, and staff are all great.
Three things in life are constant- death, taxes, and Creighton losing in the first weekend of the tournament.

I've enjoyed watching road games at Deano's on the east side. They have enough TVs they can accommodate all interests even when games are on at the same time.

I have spent some money in Mulligans. Good times. :)

Maybe we should create a sticky list of pro-WSU establishments and anti-WSU establishments.

I second the motion on Deano's and Mulligan's. I think Buffalo Wild Wings is on the east side is okay and, of course, the Fox and Hound as well.

The west side Larry Bud's has always been fantastic. At least in terms of showing the game. (The three games I've watched out there have been rough ones- at ISUr during the Jackie Carmichael kick, BYU during the CBI, and at MoSt OT last year. I don't watch at Larry Bud's west anymore).

AJ's is usually pretty good. Heroes is supposed to be good about showing the Shockers, but I've never been down there for a game.

I'll probably stick to Mulligans, but would be interested to hear other ideas too. Maybe switch it up this year.

Could just be a piss poor manager, but as you know in business it doesn't matter. If you treat your customers poorly, they will tell their friends...

and Wu has a lot of friends.

I doubt that the list of anti-WSU establishments is very long. Does not seem like a decision very many well-informed, sane businessmen or women would make.
