  • Frivolous observations - videos, half-time, media time-outs . . .

I do not miss the line-up of time-out promotions we had to endure last year - don't know if that is strategic or they just priced everyone out of the market.

Felt bad for the girls being directed on the court during a 30 sec. time-out and the refs going "Really? - get out of here".

Not a fan of DH but he does do a good job of announcing - don't know if he mis-read the script or if it was incorrect, but the banner unveiling was a mess - the guy sitting next to him was having a coronary.

So much for the drone - flying all around and no video feed.

Enjoyed seeing opposing coach really coaching up his guys even when the game was long gone.

The video before the second half with the players asking for more noise is a total miss - they HAVE to move that before the team comes out to START the game - it would be perfect!

That old dude on the chairs scared the living CRAP out of me. He did it at the VB game and I could still hardly watch the second time. Kind of a metaphor for screwing with Marshall - if you try it you are way up there with no net.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

    Good stuff @Rixtoy1:.

I know the audio is a tough thing to master, and it was better tonight. Not perfect by any means, but better.

I wonder if the drone issue has to do with the poor wifi reception inside the Chuck? (Seemingly an issue throughout Wichita's indoor public venues)

Can't play a double extended version of "Bring 'em Out" imho. Also, I think the tunnel video misses the mark slightly, although my daughter completely disagrees.

Now the pre-intro video is freaking off the hook. I'm ready to run through a wall when "Play Angry" hits the screen.

Some things just make you feel uncomfortable....old guy on the chairs did that for me. I will NOT be watching today.

I liked the get loud video, but I'd agree the timing of it left something on the table.

If you want to see some really sick chair stacking check out Absinthe in Las Vegas.

I figure we will see drone footage posted in the next few days.

And I miss the Ashley furniture promo with the recliner free throw. I loved it when these big meat bros would sit there and they would all short that first shot. They had no appreciation for how hard it is to make a free throw without your legs.

I also figured no one would ever make 5 shots in that damn washing machine but section 120 represented.

It would really be awesome if the band had more chances to play during TO's, and we spent less time on kiss cams and singing "all you need is love", which suck energy out of the crowd.

Yes. The "get loud" video was a total miss. Just bad timing. The video itself was really cool. I appreciate the attempt, but c'mon.

I'm laughing at myself for posting this but where were the yell leaders? Aka the male cheer leaders. Without them to start cheers things got a little too quiet for my tastes.

Thanks for the info. If that's the case they need to designate a few students or members of the band (male) to hold megaphones and lead cheers. Or else I'll just get used to the weird silence.

I have AT&T and have noticed I can actually get internet and texts to go through during games now. I check scores periodically or at halftime and could never get them before. That was definitely a noticeable plus for me. I dunno if anyone else noticed with AT&T.

I'm pretty sure Verizon and others have always been fine.

Where's WU is the dumbest game I've ever seen. I absolutely can't stand watching that thing. The fact that it's lasted this long makes me question the people in charge of running these things. Wu moving around like a freaking dork defeats the whole purpose of the game. I seriously can't watch it because it makes me mad. That's when I go into phone-watching mode (see above).

What they should do if they wanna keep something similar to this game is bring back the cash crawl, where contestants crawled on the ground blindfolded and the crowd directed them to go to a NON-MOVING target of a big box. That actually made SENSE and gives a sense of purpose to the game. What they have now is unwatchable.

I remember that game. Haven't seen that since the days @ HLA.

                          MUCH better, IMO.

I would enjoy Where's Wu more if more fans were to run into the referees like that one girl did a year or two ago.

Notes from the periphery after surviving an ESPN3 broadcast:

                              1. R'ian Holland- This is more related to the Northwood game, but I can't remember a quicker player in a Shocker uniform. In wracking my brain for a potential comparison over the last 15 years or in the 80s, the only one I came up with was Demetric. Although I also imagined a situation where he was able to orbit Sasha Radunovich and Rick Conn rapidly in a counterclockwise fashion and travel back in time like Superman. Bulletproof prediction for the next 4 years - his man will stay in front of him.

                              2. 3s - Anybody remember the last time we didn't hit a 3 in a game? My guess is that it hasn't happened in the last 5 years, and maybe not during Marshall's tenure. I didn't listen to the postgame show but it would make a great question for the next pregame show. However, I think it speaks unbelievably loudly that this team can stay completely in control of a game without hitting one. Perhaps Coach Pastner should zone us and take advantage of this glaring weakness... please?

                              3. Rashard Kelly - In the Southern Miss game at Intrust in 2012, Cle missed a dunk that would have surpassed Tekele's posterizing dunk. I think it was Malcolm that lobbed it to him from the elbow - Cle was on the block in the half court offense, grabbed it at about 10 feet, and then DOUBLE CLUTCHED IT ALL THE WAY TO HIS WAIST before having it just barely kick out. My point is that if Rashard's first follow dunk had gone I would have had to put it in in that league with AC's 360. I think we're going to see some amazing follow dunks from this kid in the near future, with Darvin Ham potential (Google that if you need to).

                              4. Fresh Van Vleet - Only 7 steals. He's terrible.

                              5. Shaq - I agree with others that he still took plays off. HOWEVER, my biggest concern about this team wasn't just the big men materializing, but more specifically do we have big men that can do what Carl, Chadrack, Kadeem, and Cle did better than any PFs I can remember in Shocker uniforms (in addition to X), which is hunt the play, protect the rim, and drop off their men to block or contest shots from other people? I don't see that happening with Rauno or Darius, but I did see it once in Shaq in the first half and think Kelly can get there. That dynamic has a HUGE impact in getting in people's heads. Ask Ohio State - they had it written all over their faces in the Staples Center.

                              6. Corey Henderson Jr - I may or may not have texted two Old Army Fightin' Texas Aggies about how happy I was to see his redshirt come off. I'll buy whatever Marshall is selling, but my preference is to have Corey in the backup role like Fred was to Malcolm, rather than using Ron.

                              7. Tekele - I loved that NIT championship team and flew to NYC to watch it, but I remember telling my Dad that the reason I loved Tekele Cotton was because he NEVER made me say "why would you make that decision" like Garrett, David, Toure, or Demetric. There's nothing more to say about this guy - he is absolutely as much of a transformative force in this program as Fred and Ron.

                              8. Rauno - Glad the refs didn't call traveling on the dunk. In my opinion, a bigger upside than Garrett both physically and gamewise.

                              9. Ron - I think he's every bit as valuable as Heinrich and Reddick were when they got drafted, but I just don't see an NBA team reaching for him. Good for us.

                              10. Darius - With the exception of Mockevicius, I think he could have zero rebounds for the entire season and still jump hook his way through the Valley to all-conference level. I hope he adds a little rim-protection element that we lost from Kadeem and CJ though.
