  • It's not the end of the world to red-shirt for the Shocks. Baker walked on and is prevailing now. Armstead had to set out a year as a transfer. When they played

the next Season, they were both tough as nails. If I recall correctly, Mr. Brown was a

top 100 player in one publication and has a bright future. Not sure this is a final verdict yet, but we will soon know.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

    • If a scholarship player didn't play tonight, he is getting RS. So be it for Brown and Glass. I am a little perplexed that a juco gets a RS however.

      • Going off ESPN's recruiting rankings, Brown is the second best freshman in the Valley. He's got the physical tools to guard four positions. And I'm completely ok with him redshirting if that's what happens. This team is loaded.

He has to by dying to get some run.
If he doesn't want to redshirt, he doesn't have to. Marshall has mentioned in the past that the final decision comes from the player. Zach probably won't get very minute in the non-con, but there will probably be some mop-up minutes to be claimed throughout our run through this trash conference...if that's the route he wants to take.

          • Just because Brown and Glass didn't play in the game, doesn't mean they both will redshirt. It just means they're the only scholarship players that can redshirt. And if either or both of them don't want to redshirt, then they won't.

I wished we would have been in a position to have redshirted Garrett Stutz his freshman year. He would have something else as a 5th year senior.

              • I thought it was decided that since Glass played in the exhibition that his redshirt option was burned? (not so for the freshman Brown). Is that not the case?

I wish I could remember the exact details, but serious, serious consideration was given to redshirting Garrett his sophomore season. They just felt like they had to have for that year and couldn't do, but they really wanted to, and I agree, he'd have been unstoppable his 5th year.

I'm wrong a lot and proud of it. This ain't one of those times. If a scholarship player didn't play in this boat race, he is wearing the RS.

I believe that issue was decided a few days ago that any "first year player" could play in the exhibition game and still qualify as a RS candidate.

The rule says that he can play in an exihibtion and still redshirt if it's his first year enrolled at the institution, not his first year of college as some had interpretted it.

Marshall stated on Thursday that a couple of players would not play against NMSU in order to preserve the possibility of a RS, but that no decision had been made. I believe that is exactly what happened. I do not know if the players have bought into the Arabs yet.

                              • Here is what the Eagle had to say this morning.

"Newcomers Zach Brown, a freshman, and junior Tevin Glass did not play and preserved the option to redshirt."

"“It’s a possibility,” WSU coach Gregg Marshall said. “It’s not something we’ve discussed.”"
